A Note from our Head of School
Dear HTM Family,
Happy October! Pretty soon our front drive will be blazing brilliant red as the trees begin to show off their beautiful color! We're so excited about all the changes happening at the new property as well. It seems like it took forever to get started, and now lots of smaller details are finally happening at once. We're currently finishing up installing doors and garage doors, hanging drywall, initial grading, clearing the land, and roofing. Up next we'll be completing the full final grading, paving, painting, adding indoor finishes, and more.
In case you missed it, this year HTM launched a series of Parent Education seminars designed to support healthy parenting efforts in our school community and beyond. Dr. Dave Verhaagen from Southwest Psych recently gave a phenomenal presentation called "Raising Resilient Kids," where he shared the 6 Mindsets of Resilient People (1 -Open to support and willing to ask for help; 2 - Have an internal center of control; 3 - Choose to focus on developing their strengths; 4 - Desire to contribute to others; 5 - Exhibit self control; and 6 - View mistakes as opportunities to grow). Dr. Dave helped us understand how to have age-appropriate expectations of our children and how to encourage resiliency in every stage, and he answered many questions from those present. We were all inspired, and it was encouraging to hear an expert on modern psychology affirm Maria Montessori's beliefs about child development and resiliency. Our next Parent Education seminar is coming up on October 13 and you won't want to miss it!
I'd also love to invite all HTM parents to join me for a completely optional, casual opportunity connect and catch up over coffee. We're calling this - drumroll, please - "Coffee with Kate," and the first one is coming up on Friday, October 14 right after morning drop-off. We'll meet in the foyer outside the sanctuary of the church. No worries if you can't make it - we'll do this again throughout the year. I look forward to seeing many of you there.
And finally - I cannot emphasize enough how much we appreciate parent involvement and attendance for Art of Whine! Read details about this event below and get EXCITED... it truly is a blast, and it's for a GREAT cause - blessing the teachers who so diligently and wisely guide our children each day!
With love,
Kate
Art of Whine
Art of Whine is an adults-only autumn social and fundraising event featuring delicious food, wine, beer, and cocktails, fantastic live entertainment, and one of the best silent auctions in town! Every penny raised from ticket and auction sales goes directly to our Teacher Salary Enhancement Fund, which allows us to supplement our teachers' salaries to attract and retain the most talented and dedicated educators around.
When we all contribute to make this event a success, we not only accomplish a big goal together - we help to keep tuition at an affordable rate. Our PTO is doing a wonderful job organizing the details for the event and mobilizing our teams of parent volunteers, so please contact Kathy Anderson to get involved if you have not already done so.
Each year we're blown away by the auction items that are donated or obtained by our HTM families. You all are amazing! As always, we need your help with donations to make this the most exciting auction yet. All sorts of fun things show up in our auction, so get creative and begin to look forward to bidding on some fantastic items (Vacations! Original art! Sport and Entertainment! Furniture! Celebrity items! Custom handcrafted gifts! Camps and Classes! SO MUCH MORE!).
Art of Whine is a world-class event, but it is truly a success when we fill the room with people who bid high and often. Please help us reach our goal of raising $35,000 for the 2016 Art of Whine by inviting your friends, family, neighbors, and others who will enjoy a fun night out at a great value.
Be on the lookout for your emailed invitation via Paperless Post, and please forward it on to those you'd like to invite. You may also purchase your tickets ($50/person) by clicking on the button below. As always, we gratefully accept donations if you are unable to attend or if you would like to seek out corporate sponsorship for the event.
Thank you for your enthusiasm about Art of Whine and for your help to make it a success. We could not do it without you!
