Sign up for this week's Speaker Series! Remember, students must attend at least three sessions and complete the related write-up to meet one of the competencies for Career Exploration, a course for which they may receive a .5 elective credit. If your student is interested in working with animals, encourage them to click the link below to sign up for this week's session in our Speaker Series, offering Compass Academy students the opportunity to engage in conversations with people from a variety of careers.

COLLEGE OPTIONS FOR JUNIORS- A COUNSELOR PRESENTATION
This evening presentation, scheduled for Thursday, February 3, at 6:30 PM in the SCN Auditorium, is targeted to junior students and their parents to learn more about the college exploration and application process. Other grade levels, and all Compass Academy students, are welcome to attend. School counselors from North will present on a variety of topics such as the college search process, "FIT", how to use Naviance to search, basic financial aid information, and more.
COLLEGE & CAREER PLANNING THROUGH ELGIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Elgin Community College is offering a series of College & Career events for the fall and spring semesters. Session topics include The Start of College Decisions, Financial Aid 101, Early College Credit options, Professional Etiquette, Discovering Careers, Career Clusters & Opportunities, Successful Interviewing and more. All events are free and open to the public. Events will be held virtually over Zoom on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7 P.M. unless otherwise noted. ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP
Rotary District 6440 Vocational or Technical Scholarship
Scholarship grants in the amount of $1,500 each will be awarded to support students entering educational programs preparing them for vocational or technical careers. Grants will be limited to an Associate Degree or certification program. More information is available on the Rotary website. The application deadline is February 24, 2022 by 4 P.M. Elgin Community College Foundation Scholarships
Seniors planning to enroll at ECC for the Fall 2022-2023 semester can apply for an ECC Foundation Scholarship available in three primary categories: career areas of study, academic and leadership excellence, and financial need. Applicants are required to have a minimum 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. (Students who meet competency in courses at Compass Academy have demonstrated proficiency at a level of 80% or above. This will be communicated to ECC.) Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Over 200 scholarships are awarded each year with the average award amounting to $900. Approximately 80% of the students that applied by June 1st received at least one scholarship award last year. Complete the application online. Applications are accepted year-round. The first round of awards for the coming academic year begins in April. You may receive more than one scholarship from the ECC Foundation.
STIG P. ORUM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Stig P. Orum Memorial Scholarship
The Stig P. Orum Foundation's mission is to promote the betterment of young people and the safe-keeping of human lives; to encourage education, leadership, and respect of humanity and the environment, in the spirit of Stig P. Orum. If you are applying for an educational scholarship, students must be full or part time and provide proof of financial need; a letter of recommendation, an official high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores are also required.
