Pie Day March 15, 2015
Pie day is Maths annual day. Pie day is celebrated every March 14 in honor of the mathematical constant pi. The number, which rounds to 3.14, represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.
Pie eating contest
The most popular activities include pie-eating contests, recitation competitions and raffles to pie a professor. The promise of free pie also attracts students to lectures about pi and the importance of math in daily life.
Why is it important?
The Mathematical Association of America said they support Pi days efforts to broaden public appreciation for math. Although Pi is not the only constant in math; though the full value of pi can never be known. And while a circle is such a simple shape, pi is irrational. But what I can say about pi days importance is it is just a fun way to get everyone involved, and have fun with math and express yourself.
Pi in Pop. Culture
Pi also appears in many places in pop culture , some of which Pawel Pralat, an associate professor of math. Also in 1967 an episode of Star Trek, for example, Kirk asks Spock if there are any mathematical problems that just cant be solved.
