Hello Iron Horse Families!
Welcome Back!
We are excited for the 2021-2022 school year! Our students are the heart of our school, and we are eager to have them back in our classrooms. We have been busy preparing for our return in August. Please read the information below for details regarding the beginning of the year.
We are looking forward to a great year together!
A Little About Me, Mrs. Munoz
I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself. Hello, my name is Jenna Munoz and I am thrilled and honored to serve as the proud Principal of Iron Horse Elementary! It is a privilege to work with such a dedicated and professional staff. At Iron Horse, we strive to provide a rigorous, standards based curriculum focused on students and their individual needs. I believe in educating the whole child focusing on academic, social, and emotional growth.
I enjoy all of the activities Parker has to offer and love living here and being a part of the Parker culture. I have been in education for 22 years and have been in administration for four years. My bachelor's degree is in Psychology, and I received my teaching license and Master’s degree from the University of Colorado, Denver. I received my Leadership of Educational Administration license from Lamar University in 2016. I have had the honor of teaching several primary grades as well as STEM. As a leader, my focus is on supporting the whole child and valuing the unique gifts and talents each student brings to Iron Horse. I have a strong literacy background and value rigorous, targeted instruction. I also know how important it is to meet our student’s social and emotional needs and look forward to partnering with our community, staff, and students to create a safe, warm, and welcoming learning environment.
I am married to my husband Andy of 23 years. Together we love to travel and spend time with our family. I am the proud parent of two children. My son Brendan just graduated from Legend (go Titans!) and is pursuing his degree in aviation and becoming a commercial pilot. Ash is a junior at Legend and enjoys tech theater and art. We share our home with our cat Socks who mostly runs the house! In my spare time; I enjoy hiking, paddle boarding, traveling, and spending time in the beautiful outdoors of Colorado!
As the proud principal of Iron Horse, I will strive to meet the unique needs of every child.
I believe in open and frequent communication. If you should need anything, please feel free to contact me by email/phone or by stopping by IHE. My email is jmmunoz@dcsdk12.org and my phone number is 303-387-8525. It is through working together that we will succeed in bringing the best educational opportunities to your child.
Cheerfully,
Jenna Munoz

KINDERGARTEN ONLY
BALANCED BEGINNINGS FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Kindergarten students have a transitional start to the school year referred to by the District as Balanced Beginnings.
Students will get to know classmates and partake in engaging activities. Classroom teachers will begin to build community and learn individual children's social, emotional and academic strengths and needs.
Kindergarten students will be assigned a half day to come in and transition into their classrooms with a small group of 6-8 students on Monday, August 9th or Tuesday, August 10th. Students will rotate to meet both Kindergarten Teachers during this time. On Wednesday, teachers will create class lists that are balanced based upon the data they collect on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday at noon, you will receive your child’s formal classroom assignment. You are then invited to an open house on Wednesday, August 11th from 1:00-3:00pm, where you can drop off your child’s supplies and meet the teacher. Kindergarten students will not begin full days of school until Thursday, August 12.

Arrival and Dismissal Information
Arrival and Departure Information
Iron Horse has had tremendous success with our rolling start. School hours are 8:30 a.m. until 3:25 p.m. The front doors will be opened 12 minutes before classes begin (8:18 a.m.), and students will be supervised as they enter the building. They will be directed to their classrooms where their teacher will be waiting for them, and will begin their school day as soon as they arrive. We ask that parents please drop their students off at the front door and not accompany their children into the building, allowing our staff to focus their attention on students. Because we do not have supervision earlier than 12 minutes before school, please refrain from dropping off your students earlier than this time.
Soft Dismissal
IHE also has a soft dismissal. Students will be dismissed with their classroom teacher at the following times:
3:20PM for grades K-2
3:25PM for grades 3-5
We are no longer using the "Pik My Kid" app for 2021-2022 school year.
We will send more information about drop off/pick up soon!
We are looking forward to an outstanding year of fun and learning!
