Connected Educator Month: Those who do, teach. Own it, year-round. October 2015.
A celebration of community, with educators at all levels, from all disciplines, moving towards a fully connected and collaborative profession. Convened by the connected education community, with the full support of the U.S. Department of Education, building on the success of previous years with hundreds of new events and activities from dozens of organizations and communities. We’ll be working together, in October and beyond, with all stakeholders, leaving no device unturned, no country or learning environment unexplored. Get involved at connectededucators.org.

Join us Monday night at 8:30 pm as we get connected with our new teachers at our #N2WISD chat! This week the chat is hosted by Future Ready Teachers! Special thanks to Eric Sams & NGC teachers for hosting last week.

Austin Kindergarten & Mystery Skypes

Mystery Skype is an educational game, invented by teachers, played by two classrooms on Skype. The aim of the game is to guess the location of the other classroom by asking each other questions.

It's suitable for all age groups and can be used to teach subjects like geography, history, languages, mathematics and science.

You can also do this on Google Hangout, but Skype in the Classroom has a section devoted to Mystery Skypes which might make finding connections a little easier.

Learning Doesn't Stop on the Weekends!

Over the last couple of weekends, teachers have chosen to continue learning at EdCamp Parker County, TechStock15 at Region 11 and in our very own technology building! With Connected Educator month coming up, you won't even had to leave your home to learn! Follow #CEM15 during the month of October for a variety of learning opportunities.

Library Makerspaces

Many of our librarians have introduced makerspaces to their students during the first few weeks of school. These spaces may look different on each campus, but all provide an opportunity for students to collaborate, think critically, & create!

Future Ready Academy Welcomes over 60 Teachers

Future Ready Academy Cohorts 2 & 3 met for the first time in September. The mission of the Future Ready Academy is to bring classroom teachers who are transformational leaders, continual learners, and innovators together to collaboratively explore ways to incorporate high yield instructional strategies that develop student learners who will be prepared for global challenges as well as personal successes.

During the day, teachers became familiar with the Visioning Document, participated in the Marshmallow Challenge, and tried out Google Cardboard. In addition, teachers were given the book, What Connected Educators Do Differently, which will be used throughout the year.

#geniusroos Chat

Every Thursday night at 7:30 pm, Amanda Rogers & Jacqueline Rose host #geniusroos chat on Twitter. It is a lively 30 minutes that will offer ideas & encouragement as you try new things in your classroom! Even though the hosts are elementary teachers, it is NOT JUST FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS. Join us, and even if you are just lurking, introduce yourself so we know you are there! See below for the archive of last week's chat.

During Mega Lunch, WHS students have the opportunity to participate in the TED Ed Club where they will work on creating their own TED talk. The sponsor for this club is Macie Thompson, who is using the TED Ed Club program from the TED Ed site. It will be exciting to see what these students produce!
