October is National Bully Prevention Month
Bullying is defined as unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived imbalance of power. Bullying can negatively affect your child's education and safety. Here, at Carlos Coon, we are a zero tolerance school and encourage students to recognize and report bullying to any adult. As counselors, we will be focusing on this topic during our October guidance lessons. We will also be focusing on making healthy choices during Red Ribbon Week.
Students Will be Signing a Declaration of Respect on Friday, 10/4
By signing this declaration, we ALL make a promise to respect ourselves and others. Below are the Declarations of Respect (in English and Spanish)!
Unity Day
Red Ribbon Week is October 25-29th!
Red Ribbon Week was inspired by the life and work of Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena. He yearned to make a difference by joining this force in order to help fight illegal drugs. In 1985, Agent Camarena lost his life while working undercover in Mexico.
Responding to this tragic event, the citizens of his hometown, Calexico, CA, began wearing red ribbons. In 1988, Congress officially proclaimed Red Ribbon Week.
Be sure to encourage your child to participate in our daily themes each day during this week! Tag us on Twitter @NISDCarlosCoon, @B_Rodriguez1208, @EvaEBarrientos with the hashtag #CCNationRRW
