Alice ISD Superintendent Nominated for 2021 TASB Superintendent of the Year...
Congratulations Anna Holmgreen
Anna Holmgreen has called Alice ISD her professional home for 40 years. As a product of Alice schools from kindergarten and beyond, she had fond memories, exciting experiences, and shared common values with teachers and educators.
Anna is a true inspiration to educators around the community because she believes that learning never ends and one must always seek to learn new things. She embraces each and every day as a learning opportunity and exhibits it in her actions.
She has been an asset by enhancing the Migrant Program through student intervention and has impacted many students by teaching 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th, grades at Schallert Elementary in Alice, Texas.
She goes beyond in teaching children, she creates moments and that's why she has the unique ability to remember every student she has taught.
After 25 years as an elementary teacher, she held the position of Instructional Technology Coordinator, providing training, resources, and support for teachers in the classroom.
Continuing her career, Anna held positions at William Adams Middle School as the Algebra Readiness Coach before holding the position of math director. During that time she provided and coordinated training for teachers, helped analyze data, and provided support.
Most recently, she served as Assistant Superintendent from 2017-2020 prior to her currently serving as Transformation and Innovation Administrator and the Interim Executive Director of Human Resources. As an avid learner, Anna is embracing her new role to increase her learning in her new capacity.
She loves the students of Alice ISD and Anna Holmgreen is a model servant leader and enjoys working alongside the staff in the district she calls home.
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Scarbrough, stated that "Anna Holmgreen is the critical driver and the glue for transforming our district goals and strategic planning process."
Outside of work, Anna continues to teach by providing Sunday school lessons at the First United Methodist Church and has served as chairperson for the church council. She extended her outreach to the Logos youth program at the church as a sponsor.
In her spare time, Anna enjoys music. She plays the clarinet and has performed with the Corpus Christi Wind Symphony.
Miss Holmgreen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science degree from Texas A&M - Kingsville, (then Texas A&I).
