Important update regarding using planning amounts on subscriptions
Please be sure to request any subscriptions that are 6-months or greater in length by November 19th.
After Nov 19, only subscriptions up to 3-months in length may be requested at a time through the end of the school year. If the subscription does not have an option for 3 months or less, then, unfortunately, we won't be able to approve that request. We encourage you to plan ahead for any subscriptions you might be interested in ordering. Thank you!
Enrichment Returns or Exchanges
Families should not contact vendors directly to facilitate a return or exchange, the school should be notified and will handle all requests directly. If there is a problem with an Enrichment order and an item has arrived damaged or is defective, please contact your teacher.
If an item is no longer needed or wanted, it may be returned to the school, but cannot be returned to the vendor for a refund. Please do not contact vendors directly to request a return or exchange. Thank you!

3rd Annual Mission Vista Qualifying Spelling Bee!
We are so excited to announce our 3rd Annual Mission Vista Qualifying Spelling Bee! The Bee will be held in February 2021 and is open to all Mission Vista students who are in 4th-8th grade.
The qualifying student will have the opportunity to advance to the County Spelling Bee in March, where the winner is then advanced to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.
If your child is interested in competing at our qualifying bee, please fill out this survey to join our interest list. Once the interest list has been determined and initial registration has been completed, a list of study words will be sent to you via email.

Documenting your homeschooling journey!
While organizing and documenting your school year can be daunting...it can also be therapeutic and a great way to look back on what your student(s) have accomplished throughout the year!
So...where do you start? It's easy! Just follow the few simple tips and tricks below to create your very own HOMESCHOOL YEARBOOK that both you and your student will be proud of!
1.Choose HOW and WHERE you would like to document your year
Whether you choose to create your own homeschooling social media page or make a physical scrapbook to showcase your year, there are endless ways to chronicle your day to day routine. Simply choose how you would like to create your yearbook and jump in!
I have seen several great homeschooling pages on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, to just name a few. If you choose to put together a page-bound yearbook, there are amazing sites such as Chatbooks, Shutterfly, and Mixbooks that are fun and easy to use without having to leave your home. Even Target and Costco have photo labs that let you create beautifully bound photo books with vivid colors and preset designs to make your life easier!
2.Select your photos
If you're anything like me...you probably have 13,109 photos on your phone RIGHT NOW! Start going through your school photos and deleting duplicates, blurry images, and pictures that you may not want to include in your yearbook. Choose photos that bring back great memories, highlight clubs or co-ops, field trips, and those that show off your student's work.
3.Organizing your photos
Whether you are starting your yearbook halfway through the year or wanting to chronicle your photos from the first day of school...you will want to group your photos either by unit studies, classes or projects. Organizing your photos by subject is very important when putting your yearbook together. Outline each page(s) with a specific theme or topic and build on it by adding photos that coordinate with the theme. For example...we are doing a unit study on outer space. I would start by creating a collage of photos all about our studies of space by showing what activities we did together. I might even include a picture of an essay my daughter wrote about astronauts and space travel. What a great way to hold on tight to those precious work samples without having to keep all the paperwork!
4. Compile photos into a yearbook
Once you have selected photos to put into your book...you may start adding them daily, weekly, or monthly depending on the option you choose to have it created. Many sites allow you to add photos throughout the year until you feel that your book is complete. This means that your book will stay saved on the site of your choosing until it's completed and ready to be printed! You can also choose to add text and graphics to your book to give descriptions of what your student is working on and add a little whimsy to your pages!
Easy right? Creating a yearbook can be a whole lot of fun and well worth the effort!

EL Coordinator 2020/21- Hi MVA families. My name is Lisa Mesa, and I am your EL Coordinator. This is my 23rd year in education, five of those in the charter realm. I have a Master’s in Multicultural Education and am a second language learner myself. My first language is Albanian :) I remember the difficulty of going to school as a kindergartener and knowing no English. I can relate and aim to make your acquisition of English as easy as possible. 19/20 ELPAC Scores- are available under testing on your Parent Portal! If your student was unable to complete the test due to COVID school closure, there may be an opportunity to complete the ELPAC this fall.
Initial ELPAC- If your child is slated to take the Initial ELPAC based on your Home Language Survey responses, your HST will be contacting you about administering the Initial ELPAC within the month.
Reclassification--If your child has an overall score of 4 on the ELPAC and no more than one 2 in the four domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking, he/she could qualify to be reclassified from EL to Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP). If your child qualifies, your HST will contact you with more details within the next 2 weeks.
ELD Instruction- If your child is classified as EL, they are required to participate in 30 minutes of ELD (English Language Development) instruction every day. Brainpop EL is available for Free to all of our EL students. Contact your HST for more information on how to enroll your child.

FREE ONLINE BOOKS at MAGICBLOX!
MAGICBLOX is an online book library of award-winning kid's books from publishers and authors from around the world! They encourage children to explore other cultures by providing them with books in many languages including English, Spanish, French, and Italian.
Whether your child is just learning their ABCs or learning another language after school, they can travel further with MagicBlox. You will find new books from the Magicblox Creator Community being added almost every week.
Magicblox understands the importance of keeping our kids safe, which is why all of their books are carefully reviewed before going online. Your child can follow their favorite adventure with text, chapters, and sound or even sit back and listen to audiobooks with follow-along narrations. Read books on any laptop or desktop web browser.

This Week's School at Home Website Spotlight - Grade Level Reading Suggestions
This week we are taking a peek at the resources offered for selecting books appropriate for your child's grade and/or reading level, as well as other resources that support their reading.
Here, you will find the following resources:
- The CA Department of Education Reading Lists
- Accessing ReadWorks, a free option for families! ReadWorks is a helpful resource for families with students in grades K-12. Through this site, students can highlight, annotate, and complete assignments online. Teachers can access progress reports & automatic grading. You can also easily print any of their content and curriculum to share with your students.
- Scholastic books, lesson plans, and other ideas
- Read-A-Loud Revivals amazing booklist
- Additional K-12 reading suggestions
- Spanish children stories, where you can read in English or Spanish
- Reading lists by grade level

Is your child in the 5th grade or higher?
Did your child score in the red on the STAR360?
Would your child benefit from small group instruction?
If you answered yes to those questions, your child may be eligible for Outstanding Direct Instruction (ODI) in math or reading.
ODI is a live, online, small group program offered by our Student Services Department.
In reading, we will focus on comprehension and vocabulary development strategies and skills. In math, classes include multiplication up through multi-step problems. The commitment is for 4 weeks, 2 times per week for 45 minutes per class. Classes are conducted on Mondays - Thursdays. ODI is free for enrolled, eligible students.

Hi everyone! I am a mom of 3 awesome kids ranging in age from 12 to 8 years old. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been married for 17 years. Having homeschooled our children over the last 8 years in 3 different states, I've found homeschooling here in California, especially with Mission Vista Academy, has been a great fit for our homeschool journey. I am grateful for our ability to homeschool so freely and I aspire to assist other families with their own homeschool adventures!
Fully Accredited for Grades TK-9 by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
(As each year we add another grade level in high school, we anticipate full accreditation of grades TK-12 by 2023. Go MVA!)
