Important Information
MUST HAVE IDENTIFICATION!
Every time you enter the building, please make sure that you have ID with you. Even if you have been a parent here for ten years, and you know that we may know you by face, you need to have your ID out and ready. Recently, our secretaries have been given a hard time about this issue. Please plan for the fact that you will not be able to pick up your child without photo ID. This is for everyone's safety. Thank you in advance for helping us to maintain a high level of security for our students.
SPRING DANCE ADULT LIMIT
The PTA Winter Dance was a huge hit....so huge that we almost broke the fire code. In order to ensure all students who want to attend are able to get tickets, for the Spring Fling, we will be limiting tickets to one adult per child. Tickets will go on sale a few weeks before the dance.
FIRE LANE
Please make sure that you are not parking in the fire lane when you come to pick up your child(ren) at dismissal. The police may be patrolling at any time and tickets will be given to anyone violating this law. In the morning, during drop off, students must be let out along the curb area. No students should be let out of a car in the lane of traffic. Please note that the brick walkway directly in front of the building is a cross walk. Cars must stop there in order to let pedestrians pass.
HAVE A CHILD OR KNOW A NEIGHBOR WITH A CHILD WHO WILL BE 5 YEARS OLD BY AUGUST 31, 2017? NOW IS THE TIME TO REGISTER FOR NEXT YEAR!
VOLUNTEERS AND VISITORS
There is a new district background check that will need to be completed by all regular volunteers and field trip chaperones. The cost is $19 and directions are on the district website under "Volunteer Form." The background check is good for 3 years.
Wilbur Elementary is fortunate to have numerous parent volunteers and visitors. Due to safety restrictions in public schools, infants, toddlers, and children not enrolled in our elementary school may not accompany a parent to the cafeteria, classroom, or school activities (such as field trips) during school hours.
HOW CAN YOU HELP YOUR CHILD DEVELOP A GROWTH MINDSET?
STEP ONE: Teach your child to listen for his/her fixed mindset ‘voice’. This voice says things like, “What if you fail? You aren’t smart enough. You are bad at math.”
STEP TWO: Help them to recognize that they have a choice about how they interpret challenges, a setback, and criticism. They should look at these as a chance to stretch themselves, step up their efforts, and expand their abilities.
STEP THREE: Teach them how to talk back to that automatic negative thought with a growth mindset voice. This includes things like, “I’m not sure I can do it now, but I think I can learn to with time and effort.” “If I don’t try, I automatically fail so I am going to give my best try.” “The more I look for solutions, the more I’ll find them.” “Making mistakes helps me to learn.” “Struggle is like weightlifting for the brain….I’m getting stronger by the minute!”
MOVED?
After a move, by state law, you must provide new proof of residence. This should be done within 10 days of your move.
