1. Ready to Fall?!
Good morning everyone,
WOW...what a week last week was! It's been non-stop since the full school return; there have been plenty of highs and a few hurdles to navigate.
It seems strange to be facing only one more week before another break from the school children; that said, it will hopefully provide a good pit-stop before fully cracking on with the summer term and all the joy that this brings.
I have scheduled parents' evening, upon our return, for Monday 26th April. This will be from
1-6 pm.
This will hopefully give you a chance to speak to your child(ren)'s teacher about the recent return to school and how they are adapting to the social, emotional, and academic demands. Your child's teacher will be in contact to arrange an appointment, either via a face-to-face meeting or telephone call.
Let's hope there are fewer hurdles this week. However, remember 'If you're not ready to fall, you're not ready to hurdle.'
Have a great week everyone!
Mr. Francksen
Executive Headteacher
2. Class Updates
Class 1
Another busy and fun week in class one. The children have wowed Mrs. Shave with their phonics and have been working hard in their writing, reading, and handwriting. The new playhouse has been much welcomed, it has been a shop, a den, and a reading and writing area already!
It was such a treat to complete a session with Jamie Knight who commented how amazing, engaged, and involved reception was! It is fantastic to see their confidence grow as their year progresses; is it really nearly summer term already?!
Class 2
Class 1 and 2 had a wonderful time working together on their musical talents. They look forward to another joint session on Monday. The children in Class 2 continued to enjoy learning about Ely Cathedral this week. They have especially enjoyed studying the stained glass window of St George and making their own artwork inspired by this. The children are really enjoying the extra use of the OPAl resources in the afternoons and getting outside in all weather.
Class 3
We have had another busy and interesting week. The highlight was spending time with world record holder, Jamie Knight, and trying out some of his moves! In English, we have been reading the ‘Great Kapok Tree’ by Lynne Cherry and learning how to write persuasive letters. We’ve researched some amazing facts about the Amazon rainforest and the effects of deforestation, which will be put to good use next week when we write our letters. Ask the children about some of the facts they have learned, you’ll be amazed! In Maths, Hedgehogs have been continuing with multiplication and division and Llamas have been recapping addition and subtraction. We’ve had fun along the way, playing various games, including Mr. F’s place value chair game. Looking forward to our final week, before the much welcome Easter break.

4. Wraparound provision/Breakfast & After School Clubs
Thanks to everyone who has completed the survey so far; we have used your responses to help tailor our club's offer for the Summer term and we are pretty pleased with what’s on offer. Have a look at the club's timetable below to see the activity(ies) at each after-school club for the Summer term from Monday 12th April, and note that booking will go live on Saturday 27th March at midday.
Please remember to let the office know if your child’s place is no longer needed on any after-school club session as we have a high demand on some days and keep a waiting list.
There is still time to respond to the survey; it closes on 29th March.
5. Around the World Challenge update
We've only got 3 days to go everyone...so remember to log those last few miles.
6. Easter Holiday Sports Clubs
Thank you to all those who expressed an interest in your child(ren) attending sports clubs during the Easter holiday on Tuesday 6th March and Wednesday 7th March. We have now booked the GVTSSP instructors for both days and you should have received an email confirming that your place(s) have been reserved.
The provision is FREE but we do ask that you commit to the club session(s) you’ve booked for, otherwise, we will need to make a charge to you (£7 half-day, £12.50 full day) to help cover our costs. The clubs run from 9.00-15.30 each day and children should arrive in suitable PE kit including footwear. Don’t forget to provide water, weather-appropriate clothing/hat, sunscreen, and a packed lunch for those attending a full day.
If you’d like to book a place, please get in touch with the office staff to find out if there is space available.
7. Arbor’s SMS provider
Our communications provider, Arbor, have informed us they will be switching their SMS provider next Monday, 22nd March 2021, so will be using a new bank of mobile numbers. They say,
“The old numbers (if you reply to a text) will continue to work for 1 week, but after 29th March 2021, they will be switched off. Anyone who responds to an old SMS from one of these numbers after 29th March will receive a reply asking them to contact their child’s school via alternative means.”
