"The Technology Your Kids Are Using" Presentation Recap and Information for All Parents

Last Thursday, we had another parent education series presentation about technology for parents both during the day and in the evening. Thank you to those of you who were able to come. Your additions to our conversation made it extremely practical and helpful to all who were present. We wanted to share with you some of the main ideas that came out of the talk. If interested in reviewing the Google slides presentation, you can access them here.

Some of the main takeaways are below:

1. Keep lines of communication open between you and your child.

2. Learn more about the apps your child is using and websites your child is visiting.

3. Monitor your child's technology frequently (you should know your child's passcode and you should go into your child's phone at least weekly).

4. Create a charging station location for your child's technology and establish a time each day when technology is no longer in the hands of your child.

5. Network with other parents and support each other keeping our children safe online.

P-dale Cares--Holiday Sharing Last Chance to Donate

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the P-dale Cares Holiday Sharing this year! Your generosity is overwhelming. If you'd still like to make a donation, please bring unwrapped items, gift cards, or checks made out to Pleasantdale Middle School to the main office on Monday. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Tiger Tipline

While it is always best to talk directly to a staff member, we understand that sometimes this can be uncomfortable or difficult for students or parents. At Pleasantdale Middle School, we offer the Tiger Tipline as an anonymous tool for reporting unsafe, uncomfortable, or unkind behaviors and situations. We explicitly teach the students that if they ever see something or hear something that makes them feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or is unkind, either online or in person, they should tell a “trusted adult” which could be parents, school personnel, or other adults in their lives. The Tiger Tipline can be accessed here and we will post the link in Schoology and create a shortcut to the link on the student devices for easy access.

Dates for the Year

If you are like me, you want to know the dates for the year as far in advance as possible. As long as you understand that something may change due to unforeseen circumstances, I’d like to provide you access to the dates we’ve planned for the year (many of which are in the paper calendar you received in the mail). To access the middle school calendar dates, please click here.
