Planning for Next Year

Dear Families,

This time of transition has many students and families excited, curious, nervous and worried about the next year. There is lots of chatter about next year’s teachers and classes, with efforts to make suggestions, requests and even a few demands. We have tremendously caring and skilled educators who conduct a thoughtful process in making classes that began over a month ago and is revisited and reconsidered all the way up through the days before school starts. We work hard to make sure your child is placed in a class where there is a healthy balanced community ready to support them academically, socially and emotionally.

Do siblings always follow siblings? Sometimes, but not always- it depends on the children, the makeup of the class and many other factors. As the youngest of three, I can attest that sometimes it was great to follow my siblings and sometimes it was great to be seen for myself with my own special relationship to my teacher. Do volunteers and staff members with children decide which classroom their own kids enter? No. I understand this pull, but with my own son, I too learned to trust the process.

This school has one of the most incredible teaching staffs anywhere with unparalleled commitment to the community, to teaching and learning and to seeing each child’s individual needs, strengths and talents. Every single child is placed into classes with intention, attention to their needs and the class community as a whole. Please trust in the experts, please be open to unexpected matches, please honor the opportunities to grow, deepen and expand friendships, and learning styles.

With gratitude, admiration and excitement for the coming year,

Liza Eichert

Friends of Cherry Valley Library Fundraiser
Friday, July 287:00–10:00pm

Griffo Distillery & Tasting Bar

1320 Scott St, Petaluma, CA

Please join the Friends of Cherry Valley Library (FCVL) for a Back To School Concert Fundraiser at Griffo Distillery. This concert features a live performance by musicians Arann Harris and friends, as well as light snacks and two delicious Griffo cocktails! There are only 100 tickets—so don’t wait! All profits from this event will go to the Friends of the Cherry Valley Library.

Griffo Distillery - Award winning, small-batch distillery and tasting bar in Petaluma, distilling craft spirits including gin, whiskey, vodka, coffee liqueur, mixers and cocktail kits as well as hand sanitizer.

Arann Harris - Arann’s distinctive voice comes from playing at countless campfires, hole-in-the-wall bars and coffee houses around the country. The themes of Arann’s lyrics could read like a journal of his travels: farming, animals, food, friends and “dirt-bag, wine-country livin’.” Yet traces of Arann’s urban upbringing can always be found in his music, providing kids raised on hip hop and other modern genres a bridge to the rich history of American folk.
