SBDM (Site Based Decision Making Council) Parent Nominations:
Titan Parents:
The Martha Layne Collins High School Parent Association is seeking nominations for a parent representative to serve on the Site Based Decision Making Council. Currently, there is a two-year term beginning July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020. The Site Based Decision Making Council (SBDM) meets monthly at the high school.
Deadline: All nomination forms (see attachment) must be received before 3:00pm on Friday, May 4, 2018. Please return this completed nomination form to the front desk at MLCHS or by email to Leesa Stivers at leesa.stivers@shelby.kyschools.us. Please call (502)647-1160 with any questions. If you need a nomination form, please contact Leesa Stivers at the email address above.
Qualifications: A parent council member shall be a parent, step parent, foster parent, or legal guardian of a student who will be in the 9th through 12thgrade attending MLCHS during the council member’s term of office. A parent is ineligible if he/she is an employee or a relative of an employee (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law) of MLCHS or the district central office. A parent is also ineligible if he/she is a local school board member or the spouse of a local school board member.
The election will be held on Tuesday, May 8th at MLCHS, from 8am to 10am (front office) and again from 2pm-4pm (front office).

The kids and staff make Collins a great place to work.

What is it:
Leadership development program for selected sophomores. This program is partnered with Leadership Shelby.
Benefits: acquaint with future leaders and networking with a member of the community. Field trips every month with segments of the community. Field trips will include the following area in the community: History, Agriculture, Industry, Health & Social services, government, the justice system, education, arts & media, and tourism) each month they will learn about a new segment. And how it contributes to the community, who is in leadership in our community, and how it contributes to the economy.
- There are only 22 spots available. First field trip starts in September.
- There is a scholarship application for the fee to be waived.
- Graduation ceremony at the end of the program.

Seniors going to New York that there is a mandatory parent meeting Wednesday May 2nd at 6:15 in the theater.
Track & Field:
Eastern Relays (4-21-18)
The Running Titans traveled to Louisville on Sat. April 21st to compete in the Eastern Relays. Junior TJ Rawlins scored for the boys sailing 43-2.25 in the triple jump (4th) to break the previous school record he set on April 10th by 6.25 inches. He also had his best long jump of the season, going 20-4 for 13th place. The boys’ 4 X 100 relay team of Sicari Toole, Henry Robbins, Miykel Irvine, and D. J. Web ran a season best 46.66 for 25th place.
Seniors and Senior Families:
On Tuesday May 1st, all seniors will go through a Senior Device Pre-Check. The purpose of this pre-check is to proactively determine any applicable fees needed to be paid prior to graduation. On May 1st, each senior needs to bring their school-issued device and charger. Our district technicians will evaluate each device and charger and determine, if any, the necessary fees applicable for each student. This will be communicated immediately to allow sufficient time for fees to be paid. Senior device collection will occur on Thursday, May 17th. If you have questions, please contact the school.

Farm Help Wanted:
Farm help wanted on our family farm weekends and breaks.
We are located approximately 5 miles from MLCHS.
We are looking for an energetic, reliable person who is eager to learn and enjoys being outside. This is the perfect job for a local teen!
You must have reliable transportation.
Some experience in basic farm duties, horticulture, and customer service a plus, but we will train the right person.
The jobs consists of various duties, animal care, fence repair and building, stacking firewood, yard work/cleanup, light painting.

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU AS YOU PLAN FOR SENIOR ACTIVITIES DURING
THE LAST WEEKS OF SCHOOL. PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY.
1. Prom – Friday, April 20th at the Ice House, 226 East Washington Street, Louisville, KY 40202. Tickets are on sale
now and are $45 each. This includes a t-shirt. If you wish to bring a guest, permission forms are available in the main
office. These permission forms MUST be returned by April 13th, NO EXCEPTIONS.
2. Senior Exams – May 18th (periods 5, 7).
May 21st (periods 1, 3, 6).
May 23rd (periods 2, 4).
3. AP Exams – May 7th through May 18th.
4. Senior Clearance Sheet/Transition Survey - Complete clearance sheet and transition survey. These will be given to
you through your English class on May 14th. If you do not have an English class here at MLCHS, they will be
available in the main office. These will be turned in on May 24th after graduation practice. Clearance sheets and
transition surveys MUST be complete to receive cap, gown, and tickets.
5. Senior Awards Night – May 17th at 6:30pm in the Performing Arts Center. Local and institutional scholarships will
be presented at this time, as well as other awards. All seniors and guests are invited to attend.
6. Senior Breakfast – May 24th at 8:30am in the cafeteria. Special thanks to Hardees for making this breakfast possible!
7. Graduation Practice – May 24th 9-11:30am and May 25th 1:00-3:20pm. All seniors must be present at practice in
order to walk in the graduation ceremony.
8. Class Awards Day – May 25th 9-11:00am. At this time, seniors will be given honors, such as Valedictorian,
Salutatorian, Magna, Summa and Cum Laude.
9. Senior Luncheon - May 25th 11:30am-1:00pm in the small gym. Special thanks to Cattleman’s Roadhouse for
making this luncheon possible!
10. Caps/Gowns – These will be distributed May 24th after graduation practice. Remember that both the senior clearance
sheet and the transition survey must be complete in order to pick up your cap and gown. After you receive your
gown, please hang it in the bathroom at home (Dr. Ellison will explain).
