Bio - Julieta Santana Henderson
The 2016-2017 school year marks Julieta’s seventeenth year as an educator for the Dallas Independent School District. This school year will be her sixth year as an assistant principal and she is excited to be part of the Dealey School Community. Julieta began her career as an educator through DISD’s Alternative Certification Program after graduating from Texas Women’s University and her initial career as an Occupational Therapist. She is Texas certified as a Self-Contained/Bilingual/ESL-Spanish 1-8 teacher. She received her Master’s in Educational Leadership at Texas A&M’s University-Commerce and is Texas certified as Principal EC-12.
Julieta taught for ten years in grades 1-4, while serving as a cheerleading sponsor, One-Way and Two-Way Dual Language Program teacher, Grade Level Chair, Campus Instructional Leadership Team member, LPAC member, Master Teacher and Teacher of the Year (2009-2010). Additionally, she was selected and represented the district as part of the Learning Leadership Team for the Northwest Learning Community and provided professional development to the leadership staff of schools across the district.
In 2010, Julieta was promoted as an Academic Coordinator at Jerry Junkins Elementary. Mentoring new teachers became a passion of hers and has continued throughout her career. In 2011, she was selected to serve as the assistant principal at Anne Frank Elementary, which had an enrollment of 1200 students. During summer school 2014, Julieta was the principal of DISD’s Kennedy Learning Lab, the only program of its kind offered in the summer. The Learning Lab partnered teachers with instructional coaches to build capacity while delivering rigorous instruction and was very successful. Being such an impactful instructional leader, Julieta was asked to serve as the Assistant Principal at an Improvement Required (IR) School in its fourth year. Last year, she was the Assistant Principal at Withers Elementary until becoming the Interim Principal at John Quincy Adams Elementary in Pleasant Grove to fill in for the departing principal.
Julieta is excited about joining the Dealey team and looks forward to another successful year of supporting teachers and students in their educational and professional endeavors.
