Free & Reduced Lunch Application:
Meals are free so why should I fill out an Application?
- Yes, meals are being offered at a no-charge status this school year. This is because of USDA's waivers. No waivers have been announced for 2022-2023 which means starting with the 2022-23 school year, meals may no longer be free for all students.
What is a Free & Reduced Application and why should I care?
- The Free & Reduced Application is used by the National School Lunch Program to determine if families qualify for either free or reduced school meals.
They can also be used to determine eligibility for certain benefits such as:
- Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits;
- Discounted school fees;
- Free or reduced internet service;
- Discounted phone service;
- Discounted or Waived Test Fees (e.g. SAT, ACT)
College application fee waivers;
Possible Scholarships;
AP testing - reduced fees
Can I submit an application online?
- You can quickly and easily fill out an application via SchoolCafé, your online portal for everything Nutrition Services.
CNA Applications - Fall 2022 Cohort
Are you a current Junior who is interested in being a student for the FALL CNA Cohort? If so, it is time to submit your application. Why is this a great opportunity for a student interested in a healthcare career?
Students do not pay any tuition. There is a $80 deposit for their textbook that they will get back in its entirety when they turn their textbook in at the end of the class and they must purchase their workbooks, $45. The cost of the state license application fee is $330 and the students only have to pay for half of that, $165. Students also need to have health insurance. This is thousands of dollars cheaper than one would pay if not taking the class as a high school student.
Who should apply? Any current Junior who would like to work as a CNA or any current Junior who is planning on pursuing a career in the field of healthcare. There is also a Spring Cohort, so only apply if you can fully commit to the fall semester.
The link for the application is: https://forms.gle/qKZ5iJubA8GvsUpt8. Applications are due by Friday, April 15th with interviews taking place Monday, April 18th. Late applications will not be accepted.

Introduction to Trades Application 2021-2022 / The application deadline will be April 15th
Students are encouraged to apply for a seat in the Introduction to the Trades classes during their 11th and/or 12th-grade year. These classes are eight hours per day, five days per week in May, after the end of the school year, for a two-week period. The classes are held at the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center by expert industry instructors. The students will further develop their industry skills in the class and will also develop professional skills that are critical for success in the workplace. Attendance is mandatory and absences will only be allowed with permission from the instructor. A student must attend 90% of the time to be a completer of the program. The industry instructors are evaluating the students on skill development as well as the ability to take instruction and how they problem-solve. All of the classes have a classroom and hands-on skill development component. The Introduction to the Trades classes close the gap between secondary and post-secondary or the workforce.
The Introduction to the Trades classes are:

School Funding Advocacy at the State Legislature
- HB 272 is a bill increasing the base student allocation (BSA) to $6,153 in FY22 and $6,208 in FY23.
- HB 273 is a bill increasing the base student allocation (BSA) by a percentage tied to the inflation indicated by the Consumer Price Index in urban Alaska.
- HB 259 is a bill creating a plan for a Permanent Fund 25/75 POMV Split with funding for education - this would create a plan to fund the increases in the BSA.
- HB 220 is a bill offering all of Alaska’s public employees the choice of a career with the portability of a Defined Contribution System or the stability of a Defined Benefit System.
The BSA hasn't been increased since 2017 and the graphic below shows the impact of inflation over that time. While there has been substantial one time additional funding to schools, without a change to the BSA school districts cannot count on that funding in future fiscal years.
