The Principal's Den
Later on in the evening, Cheri sent me a video. She wanted me to hear her acceptance speech had her name been called. Her words embodied everything that we as a campus have built this school year. She talked about the vision that we want to create. She shared our common goals we want to be successful in doing. Cheri, thank you for your desire to stand up before so many and speak from the heart about what we are creating. Our legacy has begun!
Thank you, Cheri for your heart and for being a part of this amazing journey with the entire Sunset Valley family. You are a positive force and I am so proud to be by your side.
APEX - Teacher Information
Key Points:
- Apex Fun Run is a 2-week hassle-free fundraiser promoting fitness and leadership. Apex athletes will be on your campus for the full length of the program to teach students, raise pledges, and serve the teachers.
- Students will be raising pledges for each lap they run at the Apex Fun Run.
- This will be our PTA’s major fundraiser for the semester and has the potential to raise more money for you and the school than any product sale could (Apex average is 70% more to the school versus traditional product sales). Also, 10% of the funds raised by each class go directly back to the teacher’s budget for supplies, food, field trips…
Here are the lessons for this year’s theme:
o Learn!
o Engage!
o Give!
o Empower!
o Never Quit!
o Do!
Your Role:
Teacher Huddle: On Monday, April 3rd we will meet for 30 minutes to go over details, hand out class posters, and get to know the APEX team. Teachers pick a class name and decide on class awards.
Pep Rally: Wear your Apex shirt, be excited, and pass out Pledge Kits to student to take home after the pep rally.
Set a Goal: Think about how much money you would like your class to raise. Remember that 10% of whatever your class raises goes right back to you. How will you use that 10%, is there anything special you have been wanting to buy for your classroom?
Team Days: Just enjoy the program, and continue encouraging students to earn class rewards. For 6 days following the Pep Rally an Apex athlete will be in your class for about 8 minutes a day to share the leadership lesson and awards.
Fun Run: Be ready for the time of your life! Join us for 45 minutes of excitement and awesomeness. Come out to encourage your students and support your school. At the end of the Fun Run, you will be provided with a clipboard and lap sheet to document how many laps each student ran. Clipboards will be returned to an Apex member so we can upload student laps into our system.
Follow Up: Collections envelopes will be distributed to each student after the run. Please remind all students to return collection envelopes the following week. Our goal is to collect 100% of the pledges!

Literacy Leaders Newsletter
April showers came early! Hoping that the sunshine this morning brightens your day! Dawn Bailey has created a monthly newsletter focusing upon Techniques and Tools for Teaching Reading & Writing. Feel free to use the contents in a manner that best meets your needs. Her goal is to send out a monthly update correlating to our Curriculum Documents with coaching tips and ideas to support Balanced Literacy and the Workshop Model.
Project ADAM
The Cook Children’s Project ADAM representatives would like to present our campus Heart Safe School certification and recognize the Code Red Team members on May 30th at our last Pride Rally of the year. This is an awesome thing to share with our families and on social media as we are only the second KISD school to complete the Project ADAM cert process!
