Don't forget to send home the yellow parent verification codes that were placed in your mailbox last week. You also may choose to save them and hand them out during conferences.
Professional Development Oppportunities
Our next Tech Thursday is November 13th. We will meet in the library at 3:30 p.m. The topic this week will be on assigning lesson tiles to students through BCPSOne. Lesson tiles are appropriate for any subject in any grade level and can support whole and small group instruction. Lesson tiles are an excellent way to support differentiated learning in a student centered classroom.
First Annual Microsoft Teacher Academy
In partnership with Microsoft, BCPS will be hosting the First Annual Teacher Academy. This daylong training will take place on December 6, 2014 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cockeysville Middle School. The cost is $115 and includes breakfast and lunch. Teachers may be eligible to receive reimbursement through the Office of Certification, if they attend and complete the requirements for earning credit.
Restart Those Computers! This is a requirement!
There are many advantages to restarting your computer - memory is cleared which will make your computer work faster; updates and applications are installed; and mysterious problems are magically fixed!
Please make sure you are following laptop cart etiquette! This is to ensure that everyone has equitable access to laptop carts for instruction. We are very fortunate to have so much technology in our school!
1. Laptop carts must be signed out on the SES Technology wiki when you plan to use them.
2. Carts should be plugged in at all times!
3. Laptops should be SHUT DOWN and plugged into the cart when not in use.
4. If you can, please return the cart to its designated spot so others can find it easily.
5. Make sure students are carrying laptops with two hands and placing them on a flat surface when in use.

Don't let technology sit in your classroom out of commission! If you have technology in your classroom that doesn't work, I can't fix it if you don't tell me it's not working!
Research suggests that students who are given brain breaks have higher achievement in school. Check out this new website called Go Noodle (https://www.gonoodle.com/). Go Noodle provide free brain breaks for students to get the wiggles out so they are ready for learning.
Snip It Tool
You should probably sit down, this could be life changing! Need an alternate to taking a screen shot. Use the snip it tool! Simply search for snip it on your computer and starting snipping!
Students can work on fluency by using Vocaroo (http://vocaroo.com/). Have students record themselves reading. Then students can listen to themselves or have students listen to each other and give feedback. The possibilities are endless.

Although this article is about high school students, it makes interesting points to consider. It made me think about what it is like to be a student in my class!
