NO SCHOOL - MONDAY, NOVEMBER 6 & TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7
A message from the Principal - Mrs. Bookman
Dear Suffield Family,
I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful families and our dedicated PTA for their invaluable assistance in adorning our school for the enchanting Fall season. The addition of cornstalks, hay bales, vibrant mums, and charming pumpkins has bestowed a warm and inviting ambiance throughout this autumn. Your generous donations and the time invested in enhancing our school have not gone unnoticed. If you're eager to lend a hand with holiday decorations next month, please don't hesitate to reach out!
As a friendly reminder, conference sign-up notifications have been distributed. If you haven't already done so, please ensure that you've enrolled for a conference slot. It's essential to celebrate the achievements of your child, so kindly make it a priority to sign up. We also encourage students to actively participate in the student-led conferences, granting them a unique opportunity to share their progress. Conferences are scheduled to begin on Monday morning and will continue on November 9th and 16th.
Enjoy the sunshine this weekend!
Mrs. Bookman
Principal
IT'S TIME TO "FALL BACK"
Remember to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night, November 4th
A Friendly Reminder: Check the Lost and Found When You Visit Our School!
We're thrilled to welcome you to our school, whether it's for a parent-teacher conference, a special event, or just to spend some time with your child's class. As you explore our wonderful learning environment, we wanted to take a moment to remind you about an important stop you can make while you're here - our Lost and Found!
Our Lost and Found is a treasure trove of forgotten items, from jackets and lunch boxes to water bottles and notebooks. Sometimes, the smallest and most valuable items end up there, waiting to be reunited with their owners. We encourage you to check the Lost and Found area located near the gym while you're visiting.
We also recommend labeling your child's items with their name and contact information to make it easier for us to return lost items promptly.
Veteran's Day
In honor of Veterans Day, Suffield Elementary is inviting all Veterans to visit with students on Friday, November 10th. Veterans are invited for coffee and dessert in the cafeteria with other Veterans at 1:15. At 1:30, the student who invited them will come to the cafeteria to escort the Veterans to their special seats in the gym. The student body will be presenting a short program and singing in a patriotic sing-along beginning at 1:45 PM in the gymnasium. At the conclusion of the program, students are welcome to leave with their Veteran if permission is given. A form was sent home with each child, so please fill it out if there will be a Veteran attending.
Field Local Schools Renewal November 7, 2023
Know The Facts!
Field Schools has placed two issues on the November 7 ballot. The first is a 10.75 mill operating issue and 1 mill for permanent improvements. The second is a 7.3 mill operating issue. These issues were last passed in May of 2019 and are up for renewal. A levy renewal does not include any new millage.
Operating money pays for all aspects of the district. It pays for teachers, custodians, bus drivers, cafeteria staff, tutors, computers, textbooks, supplies, fuel, and food. That is not a complete list, but just part of what operating money pays for. The renewal of the operating issues will allow the continuation of district services and programs at current levels.
Permanent Improvement money is used for physical items/improvements with a lifespan of 5 years or more. Funds generated from passage of the Permanent Improvement levy five years ago were used to rebuild the parking lot on the main campus and fund building and grounds repairs and improvements. Going forward, permanent improvement money will be used to maintain and improve existing buildings, grounds and facilities.
PRINCIPAL'S GOOD NEWS CALL
Congratulations to Riley C. and Terrell T. for receiving a good news call from Mrs. Bookman! Keep up the good work!

PTA Membership Drive "Pumpkin Patch" Results
On behalf of the PTA we want to thank all of you for participating in our annual membership drive. We have collected 135 memberships since the beginning of the school year- our biggest one yet. In fact, Suffield Elementary has more memberships than any other school in the district. Being that we are the smallest of the schools- I say that is very impressive! We couldn’t do this without your support. We are so proud!
Below are the final numbers for the contest. Mrs. Lowden’s class won with 16 memberships! Her class will earn an ice cream party!
Again, can tell you how much we appreciate all you do! Go Suffield! Go Falcons!
Families in Need
Planning for the holidays comes earlier and earlier each year! If any assistance is needed for your family this year, you can contact Mrs. Bookman no later than November 1st. Several area organizations often reach out to our school to help families, but if we are not aware of your need, assistance cannot be obtained. Please send a note to the office, or email Mrs. Bookman at shawn.bookman@fieldlocalschools.org if your family is looking for assistance for the holidays.

Help students Stay warm and toasty at recess
As the temperature drops and winter approaches, we want to ensure our students have a comfortable and enjoyable recess experience. That's why we're launching our 'Warm Hands, Happy Hearts' campaign. We're asking for donations of gloves or mittens to help keep all our students toasty and warm during recess.
With these gloves, our students can stay active, play games, and make the most of their outdoor time without worrying about chilly fingers. It's all part of our commitment to creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment for everyone.
Join us in spreading the warmth and joy! Let's make this winter season unforgettable for our students! Together, we can ensure that our students have a fantastic recess season.

Birthday Treats
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.
Student Medications
If you have medications that you need to have at school for your child, DO NOT send them to school with your child on the bus. Please bring them to school. The office is open from 8:00 am-4:00 pm. Please call the school if you have questions.
