Receiving the Sacraments and your Child's Participation in Family Faith
As the school year comes to an end, we hope your family is enjoying fun and relaxing time together! Although the school year is ending, our Family Faith Program continues throughout the summer months and culminates at the end of December.
As parents, it is our role to model and teach our faith to our children. Holy Family Parish values and appreciates parents as they are the most important teachers to our children. The monthly zoom meetings and weekly newsletters include activities that promote discussion and learning. Our Family Faith Newsletters provide parents the resources to become our children’s most important spiritual role models in faith.
Many of our children are in preparation for their sacraments of Communion and Confirmation. Please keep in mind that two years of participation in Family Faith are required for children prior to receiving these sacraments. During such an unusual year in which we have not yet been able to return in person, your child's virtual participation is noted by BOTH the Week Family Forms and Monthly Zoom Meetings.
- WEEKLY FAMILY FORMS - Each week, a google link to a survey with questions will be included in each newsletter. As a family, you will have an opportunity to respond to these questions. Your family's response will count towards attendance/completion of the activities.
- MONTHLY ZOOM MEETINGS - Our next scheduled Zoom meetings will be the week of July 18. Please click on the button below to view our Family Faith 2021 Calendar. Your child's attendance will count towards attendance/completion of the activities.
If you have any trouble accessing these resources, please feel free to contact us with any questions!
Mass Readings for Sunday, June 27: Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
In this week's Gospel, Mark describes two stories that demonstrates deep faith and belief in Jesus:
- The story of the woman with a hemorrhage demonstrates great faith on the part of a woman who had tried every remedy but all failed. A woman who could have been expected to give up and lose all hope.
- The story of Jairus and his daughter demonstrates great faith on the part of a religious leader, part of the traditional establishment. Most religious leaders oppose Jesus, but Jairus comes as a believer.
The stories show the awe of Jesus' miracles and how many people began to believe in Him. Jesus dealt with people of vastly different standing. Jairus was a well-to-do and influential, while the woman with the hemorrhage was financially impoverished and socially outcast. Jesus does not favor one over the other. He neither rebukes Jairus for his money and social standing nor ignores the woman because of her poverty and marginality.
For us today, we follow Jesus' model of care and acceptance for others. We can not touch Jesus, like the woman with hemorrhage, and we can not see Jesus, like Jairus and his daughter. However, we still have faith and trust in Jesus, and believe we will be with Him one day again in Heaven.

Jesus Has Power to Heal Craft
In both stories within this weekend's Gospel, Jesus heals by His touch and His words. As parents, we can reinforce this message to our children to believe in Jesus since He can heal us-physically, emotionally, and most important, spiritually.
The craft below is a reminder of this Mark's Gospel message.

Islanders Fans Sing the National Anthem Together!
After a year with no one in the crowd, thousands of fans serenaded “The Star Spangled Banner” as it echoed throughout Nassau Coliseum. It was a beautiful!
It started a few games earlier when Nicole Raviv's, the Islander's singer of the National Anthem, microphone had technical troubles and the sound was not working. But the fans took over for Nicole and they together sang the patriotic Star Spangled Banner.
They did it again at the next few games, and even better every time! Congrats to Nicole Raviv, the Islanders, and their fans for making this happen!
The video below is from Game 3 played on June 17, 2021.
