News and Notes
School Reopening and COVID Protocols
From Mr. Bruno:
Earlier this summer, I shared with you that New York State school districts have been awaiting guidance from the State Department of Health to inform reopening plans. While our state officials recently confirmed that required State guidance would be forthcoming, they informed us yesterday that they have changed course. A statement released from the NYS DOH Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker states:
“With the end of the state disaster emergency on June 25, 2021, school districts are reestablished as the controlling entity for schools. Schools and school districts should develop plans to open in-person in the fall as safely as possible, and I recommend following guidance from the CDC and local health departments.”
The announcement (information and timing) speaks for itself. We have been keeping up to date with the CDC guidance. We will be working with Dr. Mendoza and the Monroe County Department of Health to implement practices and protocols for an appropriate balance of safety and comfort for our students, staff, families and community. We look forward to reopening this fall to a full time (five days per week), in-person school year. We will share details of what that will look like as plans are developed and finalized.
