Principal's Coffee

Join us this Thursday for Principal’s Coffee at 8:30 am in the library. I will present data on our recent benchmarks tests that were given in Social Studies and Science classes and show you what they look like. We will join and explore Google Classroom and take a tour of 7th grade classes. As always, there will be time for open forum.

Maker Space

We are hoping to open a Maker Space soon that the kids can enjoy. Please see the attached flyer below of items we need donated.

This year we have three sections of AVID class. (This is instead of the Expository Reading and Writing class or replaces students’ elective for those who are ELD students). There are two sections in 8th grade and one in 7th grade. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. This class helps students with writing and organizational skills and to explore college options. Many of the students in this class will be first generation college students.

This week the AVID class took a tour of Cañada College and have been doing research about community colleges. Later in the year the students will research about private and public universities and take a field trip to one of each of these types of universities. Below are some pictures from this week’s field trip.

High School

Transitioning to high school from middle school can be stressful. Don’t worry, we are here to help you have a smooth transition. In this document you will find important dates for public, charter, and private schools in the area. For any entrance exams (HSPT, ISEE, SSAT), interviews, open houses, shadow dates, and workshops students/families must sign-up beforehand, unless it says otherwise. Contact information for each school is also included in this document. Please contact Liz Calderon-Garcia in the family center at 650-482-2110 or if you have any questions.

Save the Date - Thursday, November 15, 2018

Please join us for our first annual Elective & Club Showcase Night from 7:00-8:30 pm. We would love to have current and perspective families come see all of the cool activities students have been up to, watch some musical and drama performances, and participate in a few projects. Also, since Astronomy Night was such a huge success, we will bring the telescopes and ipads back out again. (Who knew you could hold an ipad up and have it identify everything in view in the sky through an app? Pretty cool!)

At 6:00 pm on that same night we would like to invite our Newcomer and ELD families to come join us for a potluck dinner to learn some tips about how to help your student to be become English proficient.

And... At 6:30 pm in the gym is the 7th grade Grand Canyon Informational Meeting.

Flyers From The Community

High School Family Education Nights

BGCP, Aim High, and Bay Scholars are having a High School Family Education Night! It is an evening for students and their families to learn about their high school options, how to go about navigating information and choosing a good fit for their student.

High School Family Education Nights

Tuesday, November 6th, 2018

6:30-8:00pm (Dinner provided)

Mervin G. Morris Boys and Girls Clubhouse, 1109 Hilton Street, Redwood City

Both evenings are open to all students and their families in 6th-8th grade; students are encouraged to attend with an adult/guardian.

Our goal is to give families the information they need to make an informed decision about what high school will be the best fit for their child. Our organizations are here to be a resource for students and families, and we do not promote specific high schools.
