Counselor's Couch...

The Student Council and the NJHS teamed up to sponsor the holiday door decorating contest which was judged today. The students and teachers have been working hard on their doors. All doors will incorporate the theme of Caring in the spirit of the holiday season. (See the pictures below) The character trait for December is Caring. We will be doing a school-wide blanket drive to illustrate this trait. All blankets will be donated to the homeless population. Please bring your new or gently used blankets to the front office from Monday, December 7 to Friday December 18. The grade level that donates the most blankets will win a pajama day!!

A special thanks to our judges: Cathy Evans, Joy Panter & Randy Mathisen!!

Bleacher Report... moving onto basketball!

7th grade girls basketball (Coach Hill)

The 7th Grade Lady Vikings A Team prevailed in a hard fought game christening the freshly painted Middle School Gym with a 28-21over time win over the Ingram Lady Warriors on Monday evening. The Lady Vikings twice had leads of up to 6 points only to have the Lady Warriors scratch and claw their way back to tie the score eventually taking a 2 point lead late in the 2nd half. The Lady Vikings however remained undaunted quickly regaining the lead only to have the Lady Warriors come back once again to knot up the score at 20 points apiece. The Lady Vikings staved off late attempts at game winning baskets by the Lady Warriors at the end of regulation forcing an over time period. The overtime period was dominated by the Lady Vikings, scoring 8 points to the Lady Warriors 1, as their full court press wore down the Lady Warriors providing many lay up opportunities that the Lady Vikings weren’t going to miss. Aryanna Wallace, Jade Press, Esther Long, and Cali Press provided great defensive efforts all night long. Jade press scored 5 of her game high 17 points in overtime to help the Lady Vikings pull away for. Esther Long, Heather Power, Aryanna Wallace, and Cali Navarro also contributed to the Lady Vikings scoring.

8th grade girls basketball (Coach Rogers)

- December 7 vs. Ingram -

The LVMS girls basketball teams played at home this week in our newly-painted gym against the Ingram lady Warriors. The Warriors fielded three teams for the contest. Ingram brought an 8th grade B team, a 7th grade A team and an 8th grade A team. Due to the absence of a 7th grade B team game, we combined our 7th grade and our 8th grade B teams.

In the combined team game, the Lady Vikings jumped ahead of the Lady Warriors 4-2 in the first half. Good defense and a solid offense contributed to the first half score. Despite the combination of the teams, the girls played well together and demonstrated good basketball skills. The Vikings stalled on the offensive side of the ball in the second half, failing to add any additional points to the scoreboard, but the defense held strong, allowing only 2 points to be scored by Ingram. The final score of the game ended in a tie, at 4-4. The defensive

player of the game was Destiny Deveze and the offensive player of the game was Ivory Mason.

In the 8th grade A team game, the Lady Vikings hit the gas and never let off. The half court press led to over half of the points scored by Lago in the entire game. The half time score was 20-3, in favor of the Vikings. We worked on fundamentals of basketball in the second half, and the Lady Vikings looked good doing. We were making good passes and taking good shots. We worked on eliminating turnovers and playing solid defense. The final score of the game was 26-10, with Lago coming out on top. The defensive player of this game was

Monsie Martinez, and the offensive player of the game was Mallory Web with 15 points scored.

We are proud of all of our teams and would like to thank all of those who supported us in the stands. Our next game will be a rematch against Jarrell, at home, on January 7th. Our game against Gateway has been cancelled, due to Gateway not having a girl’s basketball team this season, but we've scheduled two games on the road against Bastrop. More information will be provided by the coaches soon. GO VIKINGS!

Boys basketball report (Coach Rague & Coach Tomlin)

The 7th grade B team ran into a buzz saw on Monday evening. Although Ingram only had 7 players on their bench, they were tall and talented. The Lago Vista boys were never really able to get things going in this game. Cash Jennings made a great all around effort on both defense and offense as well as Roberto Mercado. Anson Euletarius also played a hard fought and physical brand of basketball.

In the 7th grade A game, Lago Vista came out on fire. The group was dynamite defensively leading to a 19-3 half time lead. Ingram never was able to close the gap as all 10 players were able to make positive contribution in the 34-16 game. Josh Alexander came up big with 19 points while Lucas Lawless connected for 12 points. Kable Alderette along with David Rague did a good job of pushing the ball ahead to teammates for easy buckets. Noah Yetley did a great job coming off the bench and playing with a lot of energy and hustle.

The 8th grade b team traveled to Ingram this week in a great victory that ended with a 20-point lead. Nathan cannon and Gonzo lead the team in points, with each having 3 break away layups. Ethan and Everest Colvin were shooting lights out from the block. Jack Stewart and Nate spires played amazing defense all game. We open to have the same great luck against gateway Monday.

8th grade was great games with us continuing are win streak. We continue to keep improving and scored 45 points over all. Sam Hurley led the team with 22 points followed by McKee with 16. Hunter Sims is the hustler of the game with 4 tie balls, and 1 charge. Preston coffee played great defense and ben Carlton had 2 blocks along with Tristan. It was a great win and hope to bet our big rivals gateway next week.

Allergies, Colds & Flu Season Reminders

Prevention:

  • Check with your doctor about the flu shot (or nasal spray form)
  • Germs live in noses and mouths. Avoid touching them without a tissue
  • Cough and sneeze into your elbow, not your hand.
  • Don’t share any drinks or food
  • Don’t eat lots of sweets (sodas, desserts, candy.) They put your immune system to sleep!
  • Wash your hands often… good washing takes about 15 seconds (hum the birthday song)
  • Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies to build a germ fighting immune system.
  • Get plenty of rest - our bodies heal themselves when we sleep

Treatment:

  • There is medicine for the flu if you see your doctor within 48 hours of the start of symptom (high fever, headache, dry cough, muscle aches, fatigue.)
  • Treat the aches and fever with Tylenol/Acetaminophen
  • Never use Aspirin for children under 18 (because of the risk of Reyes Syndrome)
  • Drink plenty of liquids to prevent dehydration and speed recovery
  • Prevent spreading : Stay home from work or school until your temperature is below 100 degrees for 24 hours (without using medicine to lower it! )

Let’s all have the healthiest season ever!
