Notes from Justin
Welcome back! I hope you had a fabulous holiday and that you experienced joy with family and friends.
Even though the symptoms are less severe, the Omicron variant is highly contagious. We continue to update our contingency plans and do everything possible to avoid returning to remote learning. I appreciate all of your hard work, flexibility, and positive attitude as we face a potential spike in cases.
We are continuing to revise our coverage plans to avoid closing schools. The good news is that Connie and the HR team have done a fabulous job recruiting substitutes for classified and certificated positions. We are also hiring permanent substitutes - one for each building. Based on the HR team's hard work, I am confident that we will survive the January peak without returning to remote learning. It may be challenging, but I believe we will weather this storm. Thank you for your trust and your partnership to make sure we are effectively managing our working conditions. It is a pleasure to partner with our collaborative employee groups; I appreciate you! We are in this together.
Please keep our students closest to our hearts and thoughts as we manage their day-to-day needs. They, like us, are stressed to the max. They, like us, need to be seen, valued, and heard. And, as we move forward, I hope you continue to find joy in seeing their eyes light up because of the conditions you create for them.
Sincerely,
Justin

COVID-19 Updates
While the CDC has recently changed their quarantine guidance, all Washington schools must continue to follow the State Department of Health guidelines, which remain the same as they have been this school year. If and when guidance changes from our local health authorities, we will update everyone.
K-12 Schools need to continue to follow state and local health department guidelines, which currently remain the same as they have been all school year:
Levies: The Anacortes School Board approved two resolutions on November 18, 2021, placing two ballot measures before voters for the February 8, 2022 election. Both measures are replacement levies, taking the place of expiring levies approved by voters in 2018. The combined, estimated rate of $1.28 per $1,000 valuation is 32 cents lower than previously approved rates in 2018.
Superintendent Irish and Executive Director of Finance Mike Sullivan are currently making the rounds at staff and community meetings to provide information about the levies.
