Mask Update: Masks are OPTIONAL outside/when dropping off students and required indoors.
Message from the Principal
This Tuesday, we celebrate the 100th Day of Learning and Growing for the 21-22 school year!
Thank you for your support and cooperation as we continue to navigate the surge in Covid. We have created our school master schedule in such a way that students have frequent outside breaks. Inside, it is critical that students are wearing their masks correctly--over their nose and under their chin. Teachers will reach out to you if your child is requiring frequent reminders. Please understand that it is not an option to wear a mask in class. Students who are not able to wear their mask correctly may need to be quarantined when there is a positive case in their class and potentially be recommended for Independent Study to keep them and their classmates safe. One thing we've noticed is that students are often wearing masks that are too small and it is making it difficult for them to wear their mask appropriately. We appreciate your support.
Given the current level of community spread and the new protocols issued by the California Department of Public Health regarding well-fitting masks, VUSD recommends that students wear masks that can be worn over their nose and mouth securely. Medical masks are more effective than cloth masks, and properly fitting N-95 masks are more effective than medical masks. Students may choose to wear a cloth mask over a medical mask to help with the seal.
When masks are worn appropriately, we are seeing ZERO spread in school.
Thank you for sharing your Comets with us each day! We do love and appreciate the privilege to be your school.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Chizauskie

Chromebooks for Sale
The district still has more HP 14” and HP 11.6” (for younger children) G4 Chromebooks with AC adapters available to purchase for $50 each. These devices received their last Google OS Update in September (Chrome OS 92). Again, like other Chromebooks, they will still function for years to come even though there are no further Chrome OS updates for these. Currently, these devices are running Chrome OS 92. These Chromebooks are deprovisioned and no longer managed by the school district. However, students who log in to the Chromebook with their S-# will still have all of their district Google Account information on the device. Personal Gmail accounts can also be added to the devices and be fully open with no restrictions. These purchases are available to everyone, both inside and outside the school district. Please call the district office for more information.
Also, please check out http://www.GovDeals.com (type in Vacaville in the Search bar) for a variety of iMacs, Chromebooks, and computers available for sale from VUSD. This inventory is constantly changing.
SAFETY DURING PICK UP
School Dismissal is at 2:20 for grades 1-3 and 2:25 for grades 4-6. Please do not arrive prior to those times as there is no way the children can be ready to enter your vehicle until they have walked from their classrooms. You may not exit your vehicle in this pick up line. Parked vehicles have received tickets in the last few weeks.
We have adults at every exit and around campus to direct our students. We do not have extra staff to run traffic. We need the help of every Comet parent and adult family and friends to keep our Comets safe. It is against the law to cross the street outside of the cross walk. Please plan to park accordingly and use the crosswalks as needed to pick up students from school.
U-Turns on Christine Drive are NEVER safe during school hours.
Cell phones and Smart Watches
Cell phones and smart watches are recognized as a safety precaution for parents and children. Cell phones and other personal electronic items may not disrupt the educational
program or school activities.
When students arrive at school, all cell phones and smart watches must be turned off and stored in backpacks. Students are NOT to have these items on their person. All listening devices such as Air Pods are also to be put away in backpacks during school hours.
During school hours, students should check with his/her teacher to use the phone in the classroom or the Office. If a school employee finds it necessary to confiscate an electronic device, the item will be secured in the Office. Devices that are visible or powered on during school hours may be confiscated and held until an adult is available to pick it up in the
office.
Cooper Elementary School assumes no responsibility or liability for these items and may not spend time investigating if these items are lost or reported stolen. The school and the Vacaville Unified School District do not accept responsibility for any loss or damage to any electronic equipment or signaling device, including cell phones, that students bring to school.
This month we discussed the correlation between screen time and anxiety (next month we will add on to this and talk about depression as well) and interventions to help offset those feelings of anxiety.

Parking Lot for Staff ONLY!
Student Drop Off/Pick Up -Valet Lane On Christine Drive
Please help us by following these simple procedures every day!
Patience is key. School dismisses at 2:20 and 2:25. This means students arrive to the Valet Zone at 2:25 and 2:30 at the earliest. If you want to know a secret to easier pick up---arrive 5-10 minutes after your student has been dismissed. They will be waiting for you and traffic will move smoothly. Our students are watching our behavior and learning!
*Consider Valet lane like an unloading/loading zone at the airport. You MAY NOT leave your vehicle unattended or arrive 10 minutes early and park. This zone is for active loading/unloading ONLY.
*Please pull forward all the way to end of the zone. We are asking all our Comets to wait in a supervised area and will not release them to get in the car until you are in the safe zone.
*Double parking is unsafe and we will not release students to a double parked car.
*We are noticing this week that quite a few cars are making u-turns in front of Cooper. That is a double yellow line and an illegal move. Fortunately, if you proceed down Christine Drive you can make right or left turns in the neighborhood that are legal, safe, and a good example for our students.
*Please do not park in any crosswalk. This prevents students/adults from crossing safely.
*Please use crosswalks to retrieve your children from school. It is worth the extra minutes to model appropriate choices so that our students will independently make the same safe choices.
*Remember, the best kept secret. Arrive to school 10 minutes after your student dismissal bell rings in grades 2-6 for the smoothest pick up after school.
The greatest challenge to school pick up is the families that arrive prior to the bell ringing and clog up the valet zone.
