Dr. Hill talks about Carrier Oils...

A carrier oil is any lipid-based substance used to dilute essential oils. The most popular varieties are pure vegetable oils, including grape seed, avocado, and almond oils; however, most readily available carrier oils are unstable and go rancid quite easily. I prefer fractionated coconut oil because it is stable at all temperatures and in all environments. It is also non-aromatic and therefore does not alter the aromatic properties of essential oils. Many people mistakenly believe that using carrier oils somehow reduces the effectiveness of the essential oil, when in fact, there are many benefits from diluting oils. Dilution increases the surface area of absorption, enhances absorption through dry skin, and prevents sensitivities. It is never wrong to dilute, especially when using oils with a more potent chemistry. Determining when and how to dilute is a personal decision that should be based on usage preferences, oil chemistry, and personal sensitivity. - See more at: http://doterrablog.com/ask-dr-hill-carrier-oils-plastic-and-essential-oils-interacting-with-our-bodies/#sthash.noR1sPPh.dpuf

Three Ways to Use dōTERRA Essential Oils

Aromatically - Certain essential oils, when diffused, can be very stimulating, while others can be calming and soothing. Diffusing essential oils can also purify the air of unwanted odors and some airborne pathogens. No diffuser? A simple way to use oils aromatically is to put a drop in the palm of your hand, rub hands together, cup the palms around the nose and inhale. Or, even better, add a Petal diffuser to your order this month! This is an affordable diffuser that can be used in any room!

Topically - Essential oils are easily absorbed by the skin and can be safely applied topically. Combining essential oils with a carrier oil like Fractionated Coconut Oil is a good way to apply oils to the skin. Applying oils to the soles of the feet is a great way to get oils into your system. See pages 41-49 in the Modern Essentials book for specific areas for applying oils. No Modern Essentials book? Host a class for me and I will gift you a copy! (a $28 value!)

Internally - Essential oils can also be used as dietary supplements supporting a variety of healthy conditions. dōTERRA offers a great line of wellness supplements! But you can also use the oils internally-as easily as putting a drop in water or in a veggie cap. Check in the Modern Essentials book or dōTERRA product catalog for oils that can be taken internally.
