Coffee talk with Mr. Guzman

On Monday, October 7th we started our week of respect with a student assembly. Motivational Speaker, John Morello spoke to the students about respecting others and the difficulties we all face in today's society. Throughout his performance he transitioned to different characters of different ages, backgrounds and life experiences. Each character connecting to the other and sharing the different issues that they are dealing with.

Each character had an individual message that ultimately lead to the message of having compassion, respect and empathy for other as we do not know everyone’s complete story.

New Jersey public schools recognize the importance of social and emotional learning and character education. I would like to remind us that a school culture of empathy, compassion and that is caring needs everyone to reflect on our actions and thoughts and try to understand another person's thoughts, feelings, and condition from his or her point of view, rather than from one's own.

Building a school culture of empathy, compassion and that is conducive to learning involves student, parent and staff leadership and ultimately bringing everyone together to work collaboratively, creatively, and courageously.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage month runs from September 15th - October 15th. The purpose of the celebratory month is to recognize the contributions and vital presence of both Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and to observe their native heritage and contributing culture.

I would like to recognize not only those Hispanic and Latino that have paved the way in politics, business, entertainment and science but also our MHS staff that have inspired, motivated and supported our Hispanic students to succeed.

News & Notes

  • October 14th school is closed for Professional Development.

  • Winter Sport Registration deadline is Thursday October 24th.

  • Parents, remind you child to bring their school layards to school everyday!

  • On Wednesday, October 23rd, MHS will be celebrating Diversity Day in the Cafeteria after school. As part of Diversity Day, students will create displays of the customs of their heritages. This can be in the form of food, music, clothing, photos or a combination of all. In the past, many of our students opted to bring in foods that represented their cultures. Samples are provided at each individual table where students visit. Tickets will be sold in the Cafeteria or at the door. The proceeds of Diversity Day will be donated to the Joseph V. Sabato Memorial Scholarship Fund to a deserving Senior. If you are interested in knowing more about the event or would like to contribute in any way, please contact Stacy Ulmer at 732-317-6000 ext. 21663 or e-mail at

  • Students who are leaving early need to bring a note to the Main Office in the morning so that a pass can be provided to them and they can leave class to meet their parent in the office. If a student is walking, driving or being picked up by someone other than a parent, that information will need to be included in the note.
