School Closure Update
Regina Junior Senior High School
March 20, 2020
Dear Regina Junior Senior High Families,
I pray that this letter finds you in good health. This letter will go over our plans as we proceed through this unprecedented time. Classes and facilities are closed through April 12. Our plan right now is to reopen the facilities and classes on April 13. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. We will get through this with the support of each other and the guidance of our Lord.
Activities
All activities and practices are canceled during the time of our closure. There should be no in-person contact between coaches, teachers, or administrators during this period of time.
A determination will be made on prom within the week.
Facilities
All Regina facilities will be closed through April 12. Only Regina staff will be allowed access to the facilities during the time of the closure.
Student Learning
The school closure through April 12 provides Regina Junior Senior High with another opportunity to demonstrate that it is the leader in providing the best education to its students in the state of Iowa. Regina teachers will be preparing lessons and materials for distance/online learning on Monday and Tuesday. Here are the details regarding this process.
School work is required and there will be at least 2 graded activities per week per class. The first assignments will be assigned on Friday, March 27.
There will be at least 2 days between an assignment being given and its due date.
Students must check their Regina email and Google Classroom account regularly to stay up-to-date on information for their classes.
All classes that were already being delivered online will continue as usual. A separate communication will be going out to those students.
Make sure you have Google Meet and Google Chat enabled.
Parents should request access to Google Classroom from their student’s teachers. You should only need to get access from one class to be given access to all classes.
Teachers will have office hours in some digital format (Meet, Chat, email) where students can access questions. These hours will be at least 2 sessions for at least 4 hours each week.
Any internet access issues need to be communicated to the school.
All accommodations must be followed.
We are waiting on guidance from the Iowa Department of Education regarding concurrent courses being offered through Kirkwood Community College. We will communicate with those students when that information becomes available.
Advanced Placement (AP) Exams will still take place. There will be two testng dates for exams and exams will be a 45-minute exam at home. This will be coordinated by the AP coordinator and teachers at Regina.
Student Material Pick-up
Students will be able to pick up materials on Tuesday, March 24. Students who have traveled outside of the state of Iowa, have been exposed to COVID-19, or are showing any signs of illness should find an alternate way (another family member, friend) to retrieve their materials. Any other pick-up times will have to be arranged with Regina administration. For health and safety measures, we ask parents to not enter the building nor congregate outside of the building.
I cannot stress enough that this is not a time for socializing. Upon entering the building you should go directly to your locker and get your textbooks, study materials, and Chromebook, then leave immediately back through the door you entered. Please maintain proper social distance while in the building.
We have developed the schedule below for materials pick-up. Students should enter and exit the school based on their grade and the chart below. Only 1 student per grade will be allowed in the building at a time.

Student Nutrition
Regina parents are included in the "Student Meal Pick-Up" Program that is being run by ICCSD. This is an extension of the Summer Food Program. The following information is copied from what ICCSD published on their website.
Our students' health and nutrition are the focus of our school community during this critical time. During the school closure, the District is committed to providing meals to our students. The District, through the Nutrition Services Department, is establishing drive through or walk up meal pick up locations at a number of District school sites. Per USDA federal guidelines, children must be present in order for meals to be provided.
The following schools will provide both lunch for the day and breakfast for the following day. Meals will be distributed between 11 am and 1 pm. Please stay in your car and wait for the meals to be brought to your vehicle and passed through the window. You will be given a number of meals based on the number of children in the car ages 1-18.
Meal Pick-up Sites:
City High School
Hills Elementary School
North Central Junior High School
Northwest Junior High School
Twain Elementary School
West High School
Wood Elementary School
In addition, we will also have meal pick-up sites available in the following areas:
Breckenridge Mobile Home Park
Cole/Thatcher Mobile Home Park
Lakeridge Mobile Home Park
Regency Mobile Home Park
This program will be solely for pick-up of meals and meals will not be consumed on-site. We encourage families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of COVID-19 by not congregating at the school site once meals have been distributed, continue to wash hands often, sneeze or cough into a tissue or your elbow, and stay home if you are sick. Meals are intended for immediate consumption and should be stored/refrigerated as needed. Additional resources for food assistance can be found through the United Way of Johnson County.
I will be sending out more information and updates when they become available and are pertinent. The USCCB offered the prayer below, seeking the “maternal intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe.” Stay safe and healthy.
Your in Christ,
Glenn Plummer
Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas.
We fly to you today as your beloved children.
We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana.
Pray for us, loving Mother,
and gain for our nation and world,
and for all our families and loved ones,
the protection of your holy angels,
that we may be spared the worst of this illness.
For those already afflicted,
we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance.
Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful,
wipe away their tears and help them to trust.
In this time of trial and testing,
teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind.
Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.
We come to you with confidence,
knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother,
health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Shelter us under the mantle of your protection,
keep us in the embrace of your arms,
help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
