Boys Basketball Heads To Final Four For First Time In Program History
It was a historic day for the Howell Boys Basketball program as they punched their ticket to the Final Four in front of the largest crowd to ever watch a Howell basketball game. A completely full Hyland Arena crowd that was roughly 85% Howell fans saw the Vikings earn a 76-69 win over McCluer North to advance to the State Final Four for the first time in program history. The win moved the Vikings to 28-2 on the season. Patrick Schulte 22, Daylan Dalton 14, Matthew Simmons 13, Sam Thompson 13 and Matt Schark 11 all scored in double figures to help lead the Vikings to victory.
The Vikings have now advanced to the State Semifinals where they will take on CBC on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the JQ Hammons Arena on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield. You can find further information regarding the Final Four in this edition of the Viking Insider.

Seven Howell Students To Compete At Skills USA
Seven Francis Howell High School students will join 50 others from Lewis & Clark Career Center who will compete at the Skills USA Missouri State Leadership and Skills Conference in Linn, Missouri from April 4-6. During the month of February, 170 Lewis & Clark students (41% of student body) competed in 222 different district-level competitions, with 23 students earning a first place, gold-medal. Francis Howell students earned nine first-place, gold medals.
Students competed in a variety of technical, hands-on, written, and oral competitions
that related directly to their program of study at Lewis & Clark.
“We are proud of our St. Charles County students as they once again turned in a
great performance at the district level SkillsUSA competitions, particularly against
schools twice the size of ours in St. Louis County.” said Dr. Andrew Stewart, director of
the Lewis & Clark Career Center. “We are proud of the work ethic and perseverance the
students showed. We see this everyday and these results reflect that.”
Students who place first or second are automatically eligible to compete at the
state competitions. In some competitions, third place also qualifies for state. More than
a dozen state competitors qualified to compete based on their performance on a
nationally-normed assessment in their area along with a strong recommendation from
their Lewis & Clark instructor. These “straight to state” competitors and all students who
medaled in the district competition and those competing at the state competition are
denoted in the table below.
SkillsUSA describes their organization as a “partnership of students, teachers
and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. We provide
educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical
education (CTE) in the nation’s classrooms.” Specific information about each
competition area can be found at SkillsUSA.org.
