Principal Points from Mrs. Thompson
Have a great weekend!
Danielle Fetters Thompson, Principal
Parent Square
We have switched from Skylert to ParentSquare for our mass communication platform (Skyward is still being used for grades, attendance, etc.). We realize there are many methods for communication in HSE Schools, by moving to ParentSquare we will be able to reduce some of those methods.
ParentSquare is a simple-to-use platform that provides a safe way for everyone at a school to connect. With ParentSquare, you'll be able to:
- Receive messages from the district and school via email, text or app notification
- Choose to receive information as it comes or all at once at 6 p.m. daily
- Communicate in your preferred language
- Comment on school postings to engage in your school community
- And more all from your phone or web portal!
We invite you to go to www.parentsquare.com/signin to activate your account. Once on the site, put in your email address we have linked to your student (this email address) in the Sign Up/Create Password section on the right side of the page. Then click “Go”. You will be receive a link to your email account to continue to setup process. Once signed in, if you have a phone number setup in Skyward you will be asked to confirm the number. Also, you will be asked to confirm your students.
After you create your account, we recommend downloading the ParentSquare app from the Apple or Google Play store. With the app, you can enable push notifications on your phone for alerts as well as set a language preference.
If you need to make any changes to your email or phone numbers, please log into Skyward and make those changes under the Student Info section.

HSE Child Find
What to do if you suspect a disability?
HSE Schools Child Find Procedure:
If your child is age 2 ½ through 21, attends any school within the Hamilton Southeastern Schools boundaries or you live in our community, and you suspect your child may have a disability, you should contact us for more information.
- For children at least two and a half years of age, but not yet age-eligible for kindergarten, you should contact the Preschool Coordinator at Brooks School Elementary School, 317-915-4256.
- For students who are eligible for kindergarten through age 21, you should contact your child’s teacher, school counselor or building administrator to discuss your concerns and explore the steps to be taken. If your child is not enrolled in public school, you should contact the counselor or building administrator in the building your child would attend if enrolled.

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
RtI is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matches to student needs, and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.

Photo package and order information will be sent home with your student the week of August 22nd!
Welcome back LRE families! Many students will be participating in speech and hearing screenings during the first two weeks of school.
Speech screenings will be completed for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students and you will be contacted if your child would benefit from speech therapy services in the school setting. If you are not contacted, you can assume your child passed his/her speech screenings for their developmental age level.
Hearing screenings will be completed for Kindergarten, 1st, 4th, and any new students who move to the HSE school district. Students will receive a slip of paper to send home to families if they passed. If they fail the screening, the student will be re-screened in 2-3 weeks and a referral will be sent home at that time if hearing continues to be a concern.
Feel free to contact me (lmcgillem@hse.k12.in.us) if you have any questions about your child’s speech or hearing abilities. Thanks for your support and looking forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Lisa McGillem, M.A., CCC-SLP
