Walker's Weekly

The classroom happenings in Room 105!

A note from Miss Walker

We are rapidly approaching the end of the 2nd grading period and the halfway point of our school year! I can't believe how this year is flying by!

We have several projects coming to an end this week, including our End of Novel projects, an argumentative essay, and the Holocaust Research Web Quest. There will be some time in class all week for your child to work on these items, but they may also require time to be spent at home. Please help monitor your child to make sure they are completing all of these final projects, as well as preparing for AR Test #4, which is due next Monday.

Please read carefully below for more information about our Servant's Heart service project, our upcoming Christmas Party and important information about Chromebooks over Christmas Break.

Servant's Heart

Each year, the students at South Grove partner with Servant's Heart in order to provide Christmas presents and goodies to local families in need. This year, our class will "adopt" a family, collect money, and then shop to purchase gifts for our family. From today until December 16th, students may donate money for this service project. Any student bringing in money will go into a classroom drawing. Two students will be chosen from this drawing to go on a Christmas gift shopping trip with myself and the rest of the South Grove teachers on December 16th at Meijer. The rest of the class will assist in the gift wrapping of the presents for our adopted family. This is truly a beautiful way for our class to show the gift of generosity to others during this Christmas season! Please consider donating if you feel so led! Thank you for your support of this project!

Creating Positive Relationships

This week, your child will be taking part in a program entitled Creating Positive Relationships. This local organization provides age-appropriate discussions and lessons about relationships, peer pressure, and the dangers of risky behavior. Students will learn what to expect as they progress through puberty: including lessons dealing with physical, emotional, social and mental changes. You can learn more about this organization and program by visiting the website: www.creatingpositiverelationships.org.

Principal, Mrs. Reid and Home/School advisor, Mrs. Keeley have worked hard to write a grant so that our students can take part in this opportunity. Should you have any questions or concerns about this program, please contact either of them at (317) 786-7687.

Christmas Party!

Next Friday, December 18th, we will be having our in-class Christmas Party! We are in need of donations for our party. Please let me know if you can send in cookies, cupcakes, chips, drinks (clear only), napkins, plates, etc. Thank you for your help!

Important Chromebook Information

All devices, including 6th grade Chromebooks, will be receiving updates over the holiday break. Sixth grade students need to bring their chargers to school on Friday, December 18th. All 6th grade devices will remain at school over break, so that the technology department can clean and update the devices over the two week break. Any devices not left at school will be put in a locked mode. Thanks for your help with this important part of maintaining a properly working computer.
