Week of May 30 thru June 3
Year in Review: Gratitude
We are continuing our review of The Positivity Project by focusing on the character strength of Gratitude. Gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world, and that we have received that goodness. People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for
kindness and also to return kindness. A leading expert, Robert Emmons, calls gratitude a “relationship- strengthening emotion because it requires us to see how we’ve been supported and affirmed by other people.”
"Showing gratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful things
humans can do for each other."
Family Meeting Celebrations
The eighth graders kept their winning streak alive by once again claiming The Golden Lance this week at Family Meeting. It was a tight race with theeighth graders securing the victory by only two points over the seventh graders. Congratulations to the Class of 2026 for their 12th win of the school year!
This week’s Lancer Leader of The Week is eighth grader, Daniel Goss. Daniel is soft spoken, has a humble spirit, and is willing to give to others without hesitation. He understands that everyone needs help and that everyone should be given the same opportunity for that time of support. When asked to help others complete a task or give some guidance, he does not ask why he has to do it, Daniel just steps up to the occasion and helps others. Congratulations, Daniel Goss, for being recognized as this week’s Lancer Leader of the Week!
Eighth Grade Honors' Night
On Wednesday, May 25, we celebrated the Class of 2026 at their Eighth Grade Honors' Night. These students have excelled during their time at Lakeshore Middle School and we could not be more proud of them! Check out pictures from the event below.
Compost is organic material that can be added to soil to help plants grow. Food scraps and yard waste together currently make up more than 30 percent of what we throw away, and could be composted instead. Making compost keeps these materials out of landfills where they take up space and release methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Students in Creative Concepts built a compost bin so LMS can do our part to ensure a healthier tomorrow.
Lights, Camera, Action!
The last choir concert of the year on Tuesday, May 24, featured songs from our students' favorite musicals and movies. LMS students did a wonderful job of selecting the songs and designing the program for the night!
Congratulations to our Club Girls' Soccer Team on a successful season! The team scored 19 goals on the season and only allowed 15. Great job!
Summer Enrichment Opportunity
There are only a couple of spots left for our Summer Enrichment Program! Summer Enrichment will be held at Lakeshore Middle School June 20 thru 30. There will not be any sessions on June 24. Math will be offered from 9:00-10:00 AM and English will be offered from 10:15-11:15 AM. Please complete the online registration form (Click Here) ASAP.
Eighth Grade Time Capsule Project
The students in the 8th grade Language Arts classes will soon create a personal time capsule that will be delivered to them in May of their senior year. Would you like to include a letter in the time capsule from any family members (parents, grandparents, siblings, etc.)? The content of the letter is up to the writer, but the students will reflect on the following categories in their writing: my life now, what I do, my future.
If you would like to participate, please have your 8th grader give their letter to either Mrs. Veldman or Mr. Smith by Tuesday, June 7. The letter should be in a sealed envelope with your 8th grader's first and last name written on the front along with TC Family Letter(s) written on it as well. This is an optional activity to enrich the time capsule project, but we know your child will appreciate reading your writing four years from now. Thank you for your cooperation in this project.
