Kindergarten
September 28th
Math
We are continuing our work with counting fluency to 10. All students have practiced writing numerals 0-9. Please keep practicing writing numbers at home. Students are working to increase their accuracy when counting objects by slowing down and ensuring that they have one to one correspondence. They need to touch one object for each number we say.
Reading
We continued to read favorite storybooks. In order to be better prepared to read, we reviewed letter names by finding and counting both the upper case and lower case form of each letter. We also graphed items that began with that same letter. We have been working through the alphabet since the beginning of the school year, and this week something very exciting happened: we reached the letter Z! We will be focusing on letter sound fluency in the coming weeks.
Writing
We are continuing to make progress on our story writing. Our added fluency in letter names and sounds will help us to label and write about our illustrations. In kindergarten, we have so many stories to tell! During writing time, we often struggle to think of an idea. We are working to put the stories we like to tell onto paper.
Science
This week in science we made some great observations of our growing flowers. Some of ours have grown huge while others are just starting. We brainstormed some reasons why they might be growing at different rates.
We were also lucky to have Mrs. Trabilsy return to us to teach us about rooting plants. She also helped us set up an experiment. We took white flowers and placed them in colored water. Our hope was to see how water travels through the stem. We were already able to see them change color after only one day!
Buddies
We had fun with our buddies thinking of our favorite things to do in the fall. Look at our cute crafts!!!
