Message from the Principal
Dear Henry Ford Families,
I hope you enjoyed your Spring Break. The next big break is summer vacation. We have many fun learning activities planned for the next ten weeks, so please be sure to send your child to school, every day, unless they are sick. Due to Covid, attendance has not been emphasized as much as usual, but research does show that when students miss more than ten days of school, they are more likely to score half a year behind their peers. Planning trips and making appointments during holidays and breaks makes a big difference.
I am very excited to announce that campus is officially open to the public! You now have the option to wait with your children on the blacktop in the mornings. You are also invited to join us for the flag salute and outdoor announcements every Monday morning at 8:15 . We do ask that once the bell rings, parents head out. The start of the school day is very busy for classroom teachers, and their attention is on the students. Feel free to send a ClassDojo message or schedule a meeting with your child's teacher if there is something you want to discuss.
In addition to open campus, we now have the option to hold meetings in-person. Our next Coffee with the Principal and Cafecito will be held in Room 4, with real coffee! Henry Ford's Open House will also be held in-person on Thursday, May 26th at 6:00 pm. We plan to have a virtual option available for most events so that those who do not feel comfortable attending do not miss out.
Project Cornerstone Corner:
This month's book is called Trouble Talk by Trudy Ludwig. This book is about the power of words and how they can be destructive. The main characters experience hurtful words within the guise of friendship and learn how to turn trouble talk into healthy talk. Healthy talk provides ways to use words in a helpful, constructive manner to build friendships.
Goals from this lesson include:
- Develop and maintain friendships with healthy talk.
- Empower each student to be friendship role model.
- Learn how to make a genuine apology.
- Stop and THINK. (Is it True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind?)
- Be an UPstander!
By teaching our children the value and power of healthy talk versus trouble talk we create a stronger school community where all students feel safe and included.

Important Information
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
School-wide Composting: Our official start date for composting has moved to April 11 to ensure that every classroom receives a presentation from Rethink Waste. The presentations are designed to teach students what goes in the trash, recycle and compost bins. If you are still able to help during lunch the week of April the 11th, please join us between 11:30 and 1:15.
City Trees: Volunteers needed to help plant 37 trees at Henry Ford School on Saturday, April 30 from 1-4 pm. CityTrees and Redwood City School District will be adding oaks, lindens and ironwood trees to our beautiful campus. Trees will cool our school,, filter the air and contribute to the well being of students and staff. We will be planting the trees in holes dug by RCSD the previous day, moving and spreading chip mulch and watering the trees.
Masks are not required, but please feel welcome to wear a mask if it makes you feel comfortable. At the event, volunteers will be working in a team of 3-5 people, outdoors to plant trees into the ground. Volunteers need to be 14 or older. Younger students may help with mulching and watering, with the supervision of a parent. The playground will be open for play while parents work, but there won't be any official supervision for child. Please bring work gloves and a water bottle.
At the end of our event, Henry Ford will have 37 new trees, proudly planted by the Henry Ford community! You must sign up at the following link and complete the waiver to participate. A reminder will be sent to you before the event.
