October 2nd is Pupil Count Day
Wednesday, October 2 marks the first "Count Day" of the school year in Michigan. The second count day will happen on February 12.
Count days are designated days when Michigan's schools take attendance to determine the number of students they serve. A blend of the attendance numbers will determine the school district's budget.
Count days are required under the State School Aid Act. On these two days of the year (the first Wednesday of October, and the second Wednesday of February) public schools tally up the students attending school that day.
Ninety percent of that per-student money is accounted for by October's count. Ten percent of it is accounted for by the February count.
Please help us have outstanding attendance on Wednesday by having your child in school if at all possible.

Business Department
The goal of the St. Clair High School Business Department is to prepare students for the workplace, allow opportunities to explore career choices, become knowledgeable consumers, and develop business skills needed to achieve personal and career goals. Roger Beedon, Kathy Vojnovski, and Amanda Volz teach the following courses: Accounting, Financial Management, Business Essentials I, and Business Essentials II.
In Business Essentials 1 students are given many real world experiences through guest speakers, field trips, and hands-on business projects. A highlight of the course is the annual “Interview Day” where community and business members conduct job interviews with students. Students prepare for this event by learning about professional dress, building a resume, and learning more about the interview process.
In Business Essentials 2, students focus on running and marketing the school store, The Saints Emporium. Students apply themselves as entrepreneurs and practice real world situations through the school store by creating marketing strategies, promotional items, taking on leadership roles as well as financial analysis of the business. In addition, they are heavily engrossed in understanding the customer service and human resource aspect of business.
In Accounting and Financial Management, students learn about finance through hands-on simulations and projects. Financial Management students annually participate in a simulation called Budget Challenge. This 12-week simulation teaches budgeting skills, bill paying, saving for retirement, and managing debt. Over the past five years, St. Clair High students have won over $300,000 in scholarship money through active participation in this simulation. This past year, St. Clair High School was also recognized as one of the Top 100 Schools Teaching Personal Finance (ranking #27).
Last year, the Business Department brought internationally recognized author and personal finance expert, Adam Carroll, to speak to the students of East China School District. He delivered an interactive and important presentation on saving, investing, and paying for college. You can read more about this amazing event HERE.
