Lunch Changes at PRM
In order to do this, we have split the lunch periods in half. Half of the students begin the lunch period in the cafeteria, and half begin in the choir room. They switch halfway through the period. Although the time allocated for eating is now twenty minutes instead of twenty-five, we are now able to get students through the lunch line much more quickly, resulting in more time for them to eat. It is also worth noting that, prior to last year, we had thirty-minute lunch periods with full grade levels. At that time, students would eat in the first twenty minutes of the period before going outside, and that was when we had far more students who needed to go through the lunch line at a time. So, while it may be an adjustment for students who took more time to eat earlier in the year, we are confident that students are able to eat their lunch in twenty minutes, as that was how it was done until the lunch periods were adjusted to forty minutes.
We recognize that the change makes the biggest difference for the students who eat in the second half of the last lunch period, which is late in the day. With that in mind, students may bring a small, peanut-free snack to eat earlier in the day. Teachers in each grade level will provide a time that students may have that snack (either during period 4 or period 5).
We appreciate everyone's cooperation as we make this necessary change.
Important Notes about the First Marking Period
One of these calculations is the honor roll, which is calculated after each marking period. Any student who earns a grade of 83.0 or above in classes scored on the A-F scale, and a grade of "S" or above in classes scored on the O-S-U scale, earns the honor roll. Each of these students will receive a certificate to commemorate their achievement. Students have a chance to make it onto the honor roll after each marking period.
The other calculation that takes place after the first marking period is to determine who will be invited to apply for the National Junior Honor Society. Students in 7th and 8th grade with a cumulative average of 93.0 or above throughout their time at PRM (i.e. 6th grade and the first marking period of 7th grade for 7th grade students, and 6th and 7th grade and the first marking period of 8th grade for 8th grade students) will be invited to apply to the NJHS (you can find out more about the NJHS by visiting the NJHS page on our website). Invitations will be sent in December prior to the break.
