The Heart of a Pirate
Developing rapport and empathy for our students
What is our "WHY?"
Impacting our students for the good, comes through building rapport and empathy for where they currently are. Only when they see that we care can we truly guide them to their next level of learning. I encourage you to "get to know" their story, and tell them yours in return. Greet them with a smile! Call when they are absent. This models how relationships are forged.
In this Instructional Smore, I have shared several videos, blogs, and strategies concerning empathy. I encourage you to make this the best year yet!
Book Study: Teach Like a Pirate
"I have yet to find a man, however exalted his station, who did not do better work and put forth greater effort under a spirit of approval than under a spirit of criticism."
~Charles Schwab
" Misbehavior usually indicates boredom, overwhelm, or lack of connection to the material being covered." (Burgess p. 20)
"Spend less time trying to get students interested in what you are presenting and more time making connections between what you are presenting and what they are already interested in." (Burgess p.20)
