RES December Newsletter
December 19th, 2023
Dear RES Families,
As we approach the Holiday Recess, I’d like to reflect on the last month and celebrate some joyful moments that have transpired here at RES. There was an evident shift in student excitement after the first snowfall. The overall delight that came with being able to sled was contagious. It was a great reminder to find happiness in little moments. Another welcome sight that came with the snowfall was the collaboration between students as they created different sculptures in the field. Although these have now been reduced to mere morsels of snow, I look forward to seeing what students come up with when the next snow falls.
I recently asked RES staff members to share 3 things they are proud of regarding our school community. This exercise gave me a great insight into the different aspects of our school that brings them pride. I reported the responses I received during the December 13 PTO meeting. If you missed it, here are a few highlights:
Proud of the community building student make at school and beyond
Exceptional custodian
Hard working staff for benefit of all students
Students playing cooperatively on the playground
Each child is greeted in the morning with a smile
Proud of our active and creative PTO
The students and parents are kind and easy to reach out to
and many, many more!
Weather Shift:
The last few weeks have been very interesting in the patterns we have experienced. Although this week has been unseasonably warm, winter is truly right around the corner. With the expected colder temperatures, please remember to send your child in with the appropriate winter gear (hat, gloves/mittens, jacket, snow pants, and boots).
After School Program:
If you are interested in having your child(ren) attend an after school program at RES, please fill out this survey. The purpose of this survey is to gather information about families who would be interested in having their children participate in an after school program. Jenn Parker, from Creative Kids Adventures, Inc. (http://www.creativekidsadventures.com), provided some information about what she could bring to RES. This program is for students in K-4, and would cost $89/week per child. The program would run from dismissal until 5:30 PM Monday-Friday. This program is licensed through the state of Vermont.
Options-Based Response Drill:
The RES staff participated in an options-based response drill on 11/28 after dismissal. This drill was to help practice our Run, Hide, Fight approach to an emergency situation. The staff left our debriefing of the exercise with a great sense of what we already do well, and what improvements can be made.
Mark your calendars!
