Your Help Please
Caledonia Families!
As many of you already know, the Government is providing free meals to ALL students this school year. While this is a great opportunity for our families, we know this will not always be the case. It is important that our district is able to accurately report what families qualify for Free/Reduced lunch. Not only can it help families ease the burden of paying for school meals, but this data is also used in the following programs that help fund our schools. Below are some reasons why this is important:
Qualifying for Free/Reduced meals guarantees that children continue to receive breakfast and lunch for free.
Building and district-level Free/Reduced lunch numbers are used by the Government to determine "At Risk" funding which ultimately impacts staffing at Caledonia Community Schools. Positions such as our Counselors, Reading Interventionists, Title I Paraprofessionals, the Family Engagement Coordinator and more are often completely or at least partially funded and impacted by these dollars.
We submit our Free/Reduced numbers to the Government in October and they use this information to determine Title funding. This is why we still need families to fill out the application if they qualify, even though free meals are currently provided.
If your family has already filled out an application and been approved this school year, you don’t need to apply again. You can find the application on our website. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this application to help our schools accurately report the support our students need.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION INFORMATION
Some helpful reminders...
- Please send any changes in transportation with your child in the morning, if possible. This gives the teachers an opportunity to remind your child, if appropriate.
- Remind your child of any changes.
- Keep your pick up number displayed in your car until your child comes to your vehicle. This assists our helpers in getting your child to your car as quickly and safely as possible.
- Continue to pull all the way forward. This helps tremendously in getting all the cars through the line quickly and safely.
HARVEST HUSTLE!
Please see the attached documents for the kick off of our Harvest Hustle Walk-for-Funds! This info will also be coming home early next week as a physical packet in each child’s communication folder.
This is our child-centered, healthy approach to raising funds for the Emmons Lake PTO and our primary fundraiser for the year! All the details are attached if you want to get ahead start on requesting donations this weekend or help your child make their own email/social media post to share with friends or families. Feel free to make it fun and help them by recording a post or video explaining this is to sponsor them for a walk for their school to help raise funds for their extra events, programs and supplies needed each year. Do as much or as little as you have time or desire, we appreciate your support!

Community Opportunities
DIRECT YOUR DOLLARS - SpartanNash Receipts
Emmons Lake has the opportunity to earn $1000 from SpartanNash, simply by shopping at any local company-owned store, including Family Fare Supermarkets, D&W Fresh Markets and Hardings Grocery and sending the receipt to school! This is VERY helpful, especially this year because we are unable to have any fundraisers thus far and we didn't have any at the end of last year!! Through the “Direct Your Dollars” program, we can turn eligible receipts into cash for our school! Just send your receipts to school with your child to give to his/her teacher. For every $150,000 in receipts we collect, we will earn a $1,000 donation from SpartanNash. We do need original receipts, so no photocopies. Start sending in those receipts!! We’ll collect them throughout the year. With your support – and your receipts – we’ll be raising money for our school. It’s easy to do!!!!

Message from the Principal...
Let's hear it for another fabulous week! As we approach week 4 of the new school year, we are excited to share all the ways students are learning and growing. When asking a kindergarten student if she liked school, she replied with..."I don't like it. I LOVE it!" We couldn't agree more!
Some of the things we continue to work on school wide is our PBIS expectations. You may hear your child talk about SOARing expectations.
S- Safety
O- Ongoing Kindness
A- Act Responsibly
R- Respect
We are not only encouraging students to SOAR at school but also at home, on the way to/from school, in grocery store, athletics, and more! Please take some time to let your child tell you all the ways they can SOAR.
As always, we hope you remember...
You are appreciated.
You are loved.
You matter.
Grateful to Serve With You,
Mrs. Schultz
