Mill Creek Magic Messages

News and Updates from Mr. Ortman and Mr. Murtha 2/3/2023

Fly, Eagles, Fly!

Since our Philadelphia Eagles are headed to the Super Bowl, this has generated a great deal of excitement during a time of year that can be little dreary. Thanks to our local Birds, spirits are high, and the anticipation of the Big Game is all around us, including Mill Creek. We have seen lots of Eagles' gear being worn to school, and some teachers/staff have adorned Mill Creek with Eagles logos. Main office Secretary, Ms. Guth, has even been sporting a very fashionable Eagles' handbag!

We continue to build Eagles momentum at Mill Creek towards a school Eagles' Pep Rally next Friday and then onto (hopefully winning) the Super Bowl!

FROM MR. ORTMAN and MR. MURTHA

Learning will always be #1 here at Mill Creek, but the social aspect of school is also hugely important to the development of our students and as way to connect Mill Creek with our Greater Community. In this vein, we have a few events coming up, especially for our 6th Grade students. Among them are the Solo Circus (open to all families), which is next Friday evening (February 10). Then there are a pair of 6th Grade events - The Color Games on the evening of Firday, February 24, and Home and School's 6th Grade SkyZone event on Sunday, March 19. Please consider joing for one or all of these wonderful events, and many thanks to Mill Creek Home and School for their hard work in organizing these school-Community events!

Have a great weekend!

Instructional Spotlight - Ms. Angelo, 5th Grade

During a visit this past week, Ms. Angelo's students were starting a reading of the MyView story Tracking Monsters. The story focused on scientists in Arizona's Saguaro National Park who track Gila Monsters, a lizard that resides in the park, to learn more about them. Tracking Monsters shares some challenges scientists face in tracking the lizards and some things scientists are looking learn through the tracking. As with many MyView stories, students are exposed to new vocabulary (e.g. nocturnal; fractured) and asked some challenging questions around finding meaning in the story (e.g. author's purpose; why the author makes some vocabulary and storytelling choices). As we have shared before, students are meeting the challenges presented to them through the MyView curriculum... and learning a lot! Students also seem to appreciate that most if not all of the MyView stories involve high-interest topics!

Student Laptop Expectations

Central Bucks Technology & Innovation Department is asking us to stress the importance of laptop case use for students (grades 3-6) when they transport their laptops and when laptops are not in use for extended periods of time. At school, we will be stressing the importance and reminding students of the need to put their laptop in its case during these times (e.g. when taking a laptop from their classroom to specials class). We ask that you stress these practices at home, too. Thank you for your support!

Additionally, if your child loses or misplaces their laptop case, please reach out to the Mill Creek Main Office.

District Laptop and iPad Care

Central Bucks Innovation and Technology Department has asked us to communicate the following regarding District-issued laptop and iPad care...

  • Please encourage your children to use their laptop/iPad bags for carrying devices in school, at home, and to and from each location.
  • Please encourage your children to report issues/problems with their devices, so they can be properly address and fixed as soon as possible.
  • The laptop/iPad payment fee covers accidental damage. Intentional damage may result in a family being billed for the damage.

Schools will be communicating these messages in school as well.

We appreciate your support!

Inclement Weather Procedures for Car Riders - Dismissal

We ask that, on inclement weather days, car riders post a placard with the student(s) family last name, so we can call in names for quicker dismissal. We will do our best to send a message out earlier in the day if we believe inclement weather dismissal is necessary for car riders. Feel free to use the placard template below if you find it helpful.
