Prisoners Are Being Abused
Many Prisoners' Basic Rights are being Violated
What is happening?
Prisoners all over the country are being mistreated or abused by not only other prisoners, but also the prison's employees. Many are trying to say that these are isolated cases, but instead are happening all around the country.
- An estimated 4.0% of state and federal prison inmates and 3.2% of jail inmates reported experiencing one or more incidents of sexual victimization by another inmate or facility staff in the past 12 months or since admission to the facility?
- There are over 2 million people that are incarcerated, so let's take the average of those two percentages, and apply that to 2 million! (3.6% x 2000000+) That's 72,000+ people who reported it within the last 12 months.
- Obviously this is a very large number! This definitely needs to be changed, so what should we do?
