Classroom focus: Ms. Caires' math class
Graphing is foundational in the curriculum for Math 13 and Algebra. Students in both classes need to be able to graph using the slope-intercept form of linear equations, or y=mx+b. They also need to understand and graph the equation of vertical and horizontal lines. In a crossover art and math activity, students in Math 13 and Algebra created stained class designs by graphing linear equations. They needed to identify and graph the y-intercept and then use the slope to accurately draw the line. This activity is a great way to assess their ability to graph linear equations.
Students were graded on ACCURACY: Graph all lines and points CORRECTLY; PRECISION: Use a RULER to draw STRAIGHT lines; BEAUTY: Include COLOR to make an aesthetically pleasing stained glass design; and NEATNESS: Color CAREFULLY to make is AWESOME. Finished stained glass designs will be on display on the bulletin board outside my classroom.
COVID Update
Many of us are watching our home countries struggle to keep up with the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus. Long lines for covid testing, quarantines, vaccines and boosters, and disruptions to normal life are in the news daily. Should the situation with the pandemic change in Azerbaijan, BIS will follow the rules as required by the Ministry of Education and Cabinet of Ministers.
According to the local news the "Omicron variant of coronavirus that is considered dangerous around the world already exists in neighboring countries and may appear in Azerbaijan as well, specialist for infectious diseases, hepatologist Mardan Aliyev said, Trend reports. According to Aliyev, the situation with the pandemic is stable in Azerbaijan.
The BIS Advisory Board discusses the current COVID situation at every meeting and makes adjustments to the COVID policies accordingly. The Board recently decided that fully vaccinated students and teachers who are first-level contacts can return to campus after a week and a negative COVID test. This is in line with government regulations for vaccinated people. This does not apply to a positive case in the class.
If there's a COVID positive case in a class, then the whole class must quarantine for 14 days. This is required by the Ministry of Education.
If your child has been vaccinated, please send Sevda a copy of their vaccine card.

Phone Free Lunch
Please be aware that if we see a student on the phone while eating lunch in the cafeteria we will keep the phone in the office for the remainder of the day. If it's a repeated offense we will contact parents to pick up the phone. We would like your help in reminding your Middle and Secondary students to turn off their phones for this time and enjoy communicating the old-fashioned way....talking to their friends out loud!
