Chapter 10

Taylor C

Section 10.1

Vocabulary

Base of a parallelogram-the length of any one of its sides.

Height of a parallelogram-the perpendicular distance between the base and the opposite side

Base of a trapezoid- are the trapezoids two parallel sides.

Height of a trapezoid-the perpendicular distance between the base

Formulas

Area of Parallelogram- A=bh

Area of a Trapezoid- A=1/2(b1+b2)h

Examples

finding area of a trapezoid- A=1/2(b1+b2)h

1/2(31+77)25=1350ft^2

Finding area o parallelogram-A=bh

A=(8)10 Answer-80in^2

Practice problem

Find area of parallelogram with the height of 5ft and base of 7ft?

Section 10.2

Vocabulary

Area-the amount of surfaced covered

radious-the distance from the center to any point on the circle

diameter-is the distance across the circle through the center,or twice the radious

Formulas

Area of a Circle-A=3.14r^2

Examples

Finding area of a circle-A=3.14r^2

A=3.14(5)^2=78.5in^2

Finding radius of a circle-A=3.14(r)^2

530.66=(3.14)r^2

169=r^2

square root 169=13=r

Section 10.3

Vocabulary

Solid-is a three-dimensional figure that encloses a part of space.

Polyhedron-is a solid that is enclosed by polygons

Face-the polygons that form a polyhedron

Edge-the segments where faces of a polyhedron meet

Vertex-is a point where three or more edges meet.(the plural for vertex is vertices)

Section 10.4

Vocabulary

Net-is a two-dimensional pattern that forms a solid when it is folded

Surface area-the surface area of a polyhedron is the sum of the areas of its faces.to find the surface area of the triangular prism above,find the sum of the areas of the two triangular faces and the three rectangular faces.

Formulas

Surface Area of a Prism-S=2B + Ph

Surface Area of a Cylinder-S=2B+Ch=2(3.14)r^2+2(3.14)rh

Things to know

B=area of the base--Rectangle:l(w) Square-one side squared

P=Bases Perimeter

L=Slant height

Section 10.5

Vocabulary

Slant height- L of a regular pyramid is the height of a lateral face,that is,any face that is not the base.

Formulas

Surface Area of a Pyramid-S=B+1/2Pl-----B= for square base number ^2

Surface Area of a Cone-S=3.14r^2+3.14rl

Surface Area of a sphere-4(3.14)r^2

Example

Find the surface area of a cone with radius 4 m and slant height 9 m?

S=3.14(r)^2 + 3.14(r)(l)

S= 3.14(4)^2 + 3.14(4)(9)

S= 163.4 square meters

Section 10.6

Vocabulary

Volume- the volume of a solid is a measure of the amount of space it occupies. Volume is measured in cubic units. One cubic unit is the amount of space occupied by a cube that measures one unit on each side.

Formulas

Volume of a Prism-V=Bh

Volume of a Cylinder-V=Bh= 3.14r^2h

Big image

Example

Volume of cylinder-3.14(r)^2h

3.14(3)^2(9)=81pi

254.469

Section 10.7

Vocabulary

Pyramid-a solid , formed by polygons,that has one base. the base can be polygons,and the other faces are triangles

cone-solid with one circular base

volume-the amount of spaces the solid occupies

Formulas

Volume of a Pyramid-V=1/3 Bh

volume of a cone-V=1/3(3.14)r^2(h)
