Specialties Update
I am still in need of a few students' power points to be "shared" with me through Google.
If your child finishes their power point at home please "share" it with me. You will see a share button at the top right of the screen. Below is the email address to type in.
A table of contents was passed out on Tuesday for student to organize their binders. Completed binders are due next Wednesday, the 13th.
Specialty Fair-
Specialty boards and other fair related items need to be dropped off to school the morning of Friday the 15th. We will have other classrooms visit the fair throughout the morning. Parents may assist with bringing materials in starting at 8:45 if needed. We will set up in our classroom.
Parents and other family members are welcome to visit the specialty fair Friday the 15th starting at 2:00. This is an open house type setting so you are free to visit all of the third grade classes at your leisure. Students' slide shows will be playing in the background throughout the fair. Students must stay until at least 3:15. After this time they are to take their board and binders home. You are not however to pick up siblings early if you choose to leave at 3:15.
NWEA Testing
We will take our Winter NWEA test next week. Our class will pilot taking the testing in our classroom on Chrome Books. This makes scheduling a bit more flexible. I will let you know the exact time for the reading and math test before next week. Language is not part of the winter assessment.

Math
We have started chapter 6- Geometry. There are many vocabulary words that we will cover through this unit by using a vocabulary packet. This week we have covered; line segments, rays, parallel lines, intersecting lines, angles, triangles, and quadrangles.
Next week we go into more depth with naming angles and measuring angles. We will also discuss symmetry.
Literacy
Now that we have started a new semester I am tweaking a few things with our literacy block. I will modify the daily 5 rotations. Students will now be all reading at the same time in their same reading groups. I will float around and monitor progress and activities. Students will also have the opportunity to continue their genius hour research once a week during this time. This will last from 10:30-11. The next 30 minutes will either be spent on word sorts, grammar or poetry as whole group so I can be more available for questions. The second half of our literacy block will remain the same with read to self from 11:30-12 and writers workshop from 12-12:30. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Reading-
Students are reading small trade books on focusing on the Rain Forest. Our skill this week is on cause and effect.
Grammar- We have started learning about prepositions and locating them in sentences.
Writing- We are currently working on our specialty speech for the fair.
