Raureka School Term 4 Week 8
Newsletter 8 December 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou katoa, Talofa lava, Kia orana,
This is the last full week of the 2021 school year, it has been a different one with Covid once again playing a big part in all that has happened.
I would like to thank you all for being here and helping us support your children. Our staff do their best to try and find an exciting programme to help meet the needs of the children.
We have been able to continue with a lot of our regular programmes so the children haven't missed out.
The Inter school sports have been problematic but we did need to follow the Public Health Order.
I am very impressed with the children as they have continued to strive to do their best.
Our achievement data has been very good considering Covid. Our maths data has shown 78% of children have reached expected achievement levels in Maths, 68% in reading and 72% in writing.
Hopefully next year we will be able to show even more improvement.
We will be focusing on Writing improvement and having Murray Gadd come and support us again. We will also be implementing and using STEAM- (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) across our curriculum. Hopefully we will get the parent meeting in next year.
The Year 0-1's will be starting a journey on implementing the Better Start Literacy programme to help children improve reading. This is in conjunction with Canterbury University and the RTLB. This is an exciting approach to reading and we are very fortunate to be part of the programme.
Congratulations to Mr Filipo who has now become a fully registered teacher. Daniel has worked hard with our tamariki and fully deserves this. He has continued to boost our Pasifica programme and ensure that our children do well.
We wish Miss Caney all the best for next year as she joins the staff at Taradale Primary. We will miss you.
Stationery for 2022: Next year we will be selling stationery from outside the school office.
We have got the best prices available and they will match the back to school prices sold by other retailers.
The books we sell will be the ones that teachers have requested to meet the needs of their learning programmes. The books etc will come in a pack.
The office will be open for sales on Monday 31st January and Tuesday 1st February so you can come and buy them.
New enrolments and uniform purchases will also be taken on those days.
Children start school on Wednesday 2nd February 2022.
Unfortunately, we have had to change our end of year assembly to be School students and staff only. The assembly will be live streamed on Facebook. Thank you for supporting us with this. Remember no parents are able to attend our end of year assembly.
Reminder that school will finish for the year on Wednesday 15 (next week) at 12.30pm.
Children need to go home at this time so there will be NO lunch provided on that day.
Greg

Medical Reminders
We often have a few ‘bugs’ around the school.
· A common one is a nasty cough/flu type illness. Keep your children home if they have symptoms of this as it spreads easily.
· If your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea, they MUST stay home for 2 days after the last event. This illness definitely spreads quickly around the school.
· Headlice are always around so make sure that you check your child’s hair regularly (we suggest weekly) and treat the hair if necessary. We have treatments available from school for free. Just pop in and we can give you some.
· If your child is at all unwell, please keep them home so that they don’t pass bugs on to other children. Also if a child is feeling unwell they are not able to learn easily and are much better off at home snuggled up in bed.
Don’t forget to contact the school office to let us know when your child is unwell please.
Volunteers needed for supervision of our school patrollers. The children are well trained, it is just a matter of having an adult supervise from 8.30-9.00. We need help on the following days - Front Gate: Wednesday, Friday, Back Gate: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday.
