Causes of the Mexican-American War

Texas gained it freedom from Mexico in 1836. The United States declined Texas request to join , because it would have upset the balance of free and slave states.

Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

The Mexican-American War officially ended on February 2, 1848. Mexico had lost and that being said they had to sign a treaty that gave the United States 525,000 miles of new land.

The Bear Flag Revolt

The Bear Flag Revolt was a group of California citizens rebelled against the Mexican government, and demanded to be an independent republic. The United States army began going to California which it soon joined the United States.

Gadsden Purchase

The Gadsden Purchase was a treaty between Mexico and the United States. It was finalized in 1854. The United States agreed to pay Mexico $10 million dollars for land.
