First Grade Update
February 19, 2016
Dates to Remember:
- Each Friday: Homework Due
- Feb. 19: Mid-Year Data Sheets (TODAY!)
- Feb. 23: Class Picture Day
- Mar. 10: Lakeside Open House @ 6-7 p.m.
- Mar. 11: Deadline for Jump Rope for Heart donations to be turned in to Mrs. Bladl
This week, we discussed reading with expression with the author's intention in mind. We also reviewed some common strategies needed when reading/comprehending such as attending to the picture, ensuring what you read makes sense, and checking for understanding after each 1-2 pages read.
In spelling, we learned that adjectives and adverbs have forms called comparative and superlative that are used for comparisons (sweet, sweeter, and sweetest.)
In social studies, we continued our study on presidents and first ladies. Towards the end of the week, we put our finishing touches on our projects.
In math, we had fun finding the missing addend in equations.
In science, we observed changes in the sky and recorded our discoveries in graphic organizers, journals, and flipbooks.

Note from Nurse Lander
Remember... your child MUST BE fever and vomit free for 24 hours before they can return to school. Thank you for your consideration in this!
Jump Rope for Heart
Our school is participating in the Jump Rope for Heart program to raise money for the American Heart Association. To encourage participation in the program, one class in each grade level will have a chance to earn an extra P.E. in May if their class collects the most donations.
All donations need to be returned by Friday, March 11th.
