Straw Wars
Put 20 straws of different lengths in a cup. Each partner pulls one out. Line them up. Flip a coin that says shorter or longer. The winner takes the straws. Continue playing until all the straws are gone. Each player lines up their own straws that they won, and see who has the longest straw!
Tower Grab
Each partner grabs a handful of unifix cubes and builds a tower. Flip the coin that says longer or shorter and the winner makes a tally mark on a post it. First one to win five games is the winner.
Crooked Paths
Looks can be deceiving...which is longer a straight line or a crooked line? Students made predictions, then used paper clips to measure both lines to see which one was the longest.
Pangolins
In our Scholastic News we learned about the endangered pangolin. It looks like an anteater but the cool thing about it is that it rolls into a ball when danger is near.
Letters
The children started writing letters to the Rangers thanking them for protecting these endangered animals.
Morning tubs
They can not get enough of these crazy connecting things!
Reading
We ended our Fiction unit in reading with children writing a book recommendation of their favorite fiction book. Many loved the Pigeon books!
Measuement
Measuring ourselves with unifix cubes was hilarious! It was good practice for us to measure something from end to end or in this case, from head to toe!
Planting
Mrs. Sayre helped kick off our unit on planting by helping us plant a flower. We will expand on this idea of planting with planting seeds in different types of liquid to see if some liquids help the seed grow faster.... stay tuned.
Doggy Bag
1. Keep those reading logs coming!
2. May book order is due May 12th
3. We are starting a research unit on bugs. If your child has a bug book at home that they would like to bring in, we would need it Monday. Make sure their name is in it.
