A Note from Our Administrators
Hello Cheetah Families!
It's been a fantastic two weeks here at CRES and we have had such a great time learning and growing together. We have a few very important notes for you to review over the weekend:
- Cheetah Coalition began on Monday, and we are gearing up for our culminating event - The Grey Ghost. You can start registering for this 1/2K, 1K and 5K event online at https://greyghost.itsyourrace.com/event.aspx?id=7954. Please be sure to list Chapman's Retreat Elementary School as your group so our school gets credit! Please make sure your child has plenty of water when running - the heat of the day is at its best, but it is still extremely warm. If your child is participating in this event, please do not drop them off in the parking lot. Most of our teachers are arriving at the same time that Run Club starts, and we want to be sure that all of the Cheetah family is safe.
- There has been an uptick in the number of students at home on quarantine due to being a close contact of a positive COVID case. If your child will be out due to quarantine, illness or a positive COVID-19 test, please be sure to reach out to your child's teacher, Heather Curtis and Nurse Shantyl with the details. We will work with you to ensure that your child gets as much instruction as possible.
- Hard copies of 4th and 5th grade TNReady scores are going home with students today. In this newsletter, you will also find direction regarding accessing your child's scores online.
In this edition of Cheetah Chatter, you will find:
- Information from our School Social Worker
- Details about the CRES night at Summit Football
- Art class updates
- Bookfair Information
- A note from our Crossing Guard
- Counselor's newsletter
- Directions for how to access your child's TNReady scores online
- Updated Illness guidelines and a note from our school nurse
- PTO Updates
Wishing you a great weekend!

Notes from the Nurse
Dear Chapman's Retreat Families,
Please partner with us and pre-screen your children at home before sending them to school. If your child is complaining of or displaying illness symptoms, please follow the protocol listed below.
Also, if anyone in your home has a positive COVID-19 test result, we are asking that you keep everyone in your family out of school according to the household contact guidelines. Those living in the same household with the positive case are considered close contacts according to CDC guidelines and most likely to contract this virus.
We are seeing an increase in the number of positive COVID cases reported to the schools. People are experiencing a wide range of non-specific symptoms that vary with severity. Some have had what they thought to have been their typical allergy symptoms, while others have had a singular headache.
A household contact may need to stay home longer with ongoing exposure. We recommend a minimum 10 days if you are able to isolate the positive case from the other family members (10-24 days).
If your child has one of these symptoms, he/she should remain at home:
- Fever or chills
- Nausea or vomiting, diarrhea
- New loss of taste or smell
- Prolonged exposure to someone with COVID-19 (member of your family, etc.)
- Requiring cold or pain medication to make it through the day
- Muscle or body aches
- Tiredness (fatigue)
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Congestion
- Runny nose
Testing for COVID-19 is advised with these symptoms but you can return to school with:
- written documentation from a healthcare provider that symptoms are no longer infectious OR
- negative test results with 24-hour symptom improvement OR
- Remain out of school for a minimum of 10 days.
Our main goal is to keep each of our students and staff safe and healthy. We want our families to be able to attend school in person, stay safe in school, and stay in school. Please partner with us by keeping your student home if they are not feeling well.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our school family healthy.
Sincerely,
Shantyl Cooke

The Book Fair is Coming!
CRES Families,
We are so excited for the Learning Commons to be up and running this year. The great news is that students can take books home again! To protect our books, we have provided each student with a reusable book bag to carry their books to and from class and school. Please do not throw these away.
Bookfair is coming! The Bookfair will be at Chapman's from 09/13- 09/17/21. It will be out of this world!
Thank you,
Amber Walker
TCAP Scores Available Online
TCAP score reports are now available for those students who took the spring 2021 assessments. We wanted to share a new, valuable resource from the Tennessee Department of Education with you. The TCAP Family Portal is a free, online resource to help inform families of their student’s strengths and areas for growth. This resource has valuable information including:
- TCAP scale scores and performance levels by subject
- Test history features allowing families to track progress over time
- Links to Parent Guides
- Next Step recommendations, including links to practice tests
This resource is optional and printed individual student reports will be sent home on Friday, August 27th.
The department made changes to TCAP reporting based on parent feedback. Information shared through the portal will ideally be useful for families engaging in conversations with educators about their child’s academic progress.
Families can access this resource by registering at familyreport.tnedu.gov. Data will be uploaded as TCAP scores are released. Families will need to have their student’s ID number to create an account. (Here is a link to the family Portal Help Guide that can provide a little more guidance to the site itself:)
https://www.livebinders.com/media/get/MjE1MjUyNjg=
You can access the state ID from Skyward under Online Forms. Locate the State Student ID form, click Fill Out Form, then go to Step 1 to see your child’s state ID.
- Use the seven-digit number from Skyward and add two zeroes in front of that number. The resulting nine-digit number will enable you to create an account for your student. For example, a state ID 1234567 would become 00123456
- Families of students who did not participate in the spring 2021 testing window will not have access to the TCAP Family Portal at this time.
After logging into the TCAP Family Portal, you are invited to give feedback on this new resource through the survey link provided in the portal. If you need assistance accessing the TCAP Family portal, please call the state’s help desk at 1-888-711-7724. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to the department at TNED.Assessment@tn.gov.
