Note from our Principal

This month’s message is more of a personal note. I have made the decision that this year is my final year as principal of High Lakes. I will be retiring at the end of June. Our whole working career I think we all daydream about the day we retire and the life that will come after our many years of hard work. What has surprised me is what a difficult decision this has been to make. I love what I do; I love all the children and families; I love the staff I work with; but it is time to pass on the baton and the responsibilities that come with this position. It truly has been the honor of my career to be the leader of this fabulous school and a part of this community.

You are probably wondering, “What is the process for hiring a new principal?” The district office will be assembling a team of staff members, parents and administrators to conduct the search and conduct the interviews for a new leader. The position will be posted in January, a selection of candidates will be made in February, and interviews will take place the first part of March. The new principal will be announced by mid March and they will begin their responsibilities July 1. Speaking from experience, it is a very rigorous process that the finalists are put through in this very important selection process. As a part of this, there will be a public forum held for parents and community members to attend, to meet the finalists and to be able to ask questions of each candidate. We will keep you informed of when this forum will be held.

In the mean time, I have six months left to be at the helm. I assure you, my objective is to keep everything running with the same high standards as they have for the past eight years.
