Monthly Update on CFAUSD Board of Education Activities
Purpose
An impressive looking Blackhawk helicopter carrying Brigadier General May and Chief
Workman landed at 9:30AM in the practice field of the Chippewa Falls Senior High School on
Thursday, November 30, 2023. The purpose of the visit was to have a conversation about the
Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program. The guests were greeted
by student representatives from the Flags 4 the Fallen and Chi-Hi’s American Club. Following
introductions, a tour of the high school highlighting some of the innovative technology practices
was given. Tour stops included students working on the Anatomage Table, a drone
demonstration, and activities taking place within the STEM lab. A discussion about JROTC
programming and lunch followed the tour.

Showcases
Robotics Club
Tim Wolter has been a Robotics Coach in the District for about 25 years. The team is coached by 14 community volunteer coaches and 1 district employed coach and consists of approximately 32 high school students each year. Elleana Kenney, Megan Schutte, and Brett Schaefer (see photo) provided an overview of some of the recent challenges and competitions that they have been a part of. One notable accomplishment is the Avis Automata 5826 Robotics Team was only 6 inches short of going to the World Championship in Houston, TX this last year.
Hillcrest Elementary School
Lori Hebert, Hillcrest Principal, provided an overview of the Bridges math curriculum that is taught district wide in K-5 classrooms. Mrs. Hebert presented data that shows the growth that Hillcrest students are performing on the WI Forward exam, giving credit to the Bridges curriculum that is being used. Madelyn Davis, a fifth grader at Hillcrest, presented the “Spooky Trail” assignment that her and her classmates completed in Ms. Sarauer’s class. Madelyn shared the steps that they had to take to create the spooky trail and also displayed examples throughout the boardroom; click here for copy of the detailed presentation.

Sue Kern, Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction, provided an overview of monitoring report R-2.1.b Academic Performance (Math); the Board agreed that the District has made reasonable progress with noted exceptions on monitoring report R-2.1.b; click here to view the report.

Sue Kern, Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction, provided an overview of the 2022-2023 DPI School and District Report Cards.
2024-2025 School Calendar Development Update
Sue Kern, Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction, provided an update on the development of the 2024-2025 school year calendar. The proposed calendar will be brought to the Board for approval at the December meeting.
Five-Year CFAUSD Budget Forecast
Chad Trowbridge, Executive Director of Business Services & Finance, provided an overview of the five-year budget forecast; given what the District is aware of regarding the current school funding formula utilized by the State, there will be challenges ahead; stay tuned as the budget process unfolds.
